New Orleans Hotels

Heading to NOLA in mid-Feb to escape the NW winter. Plenty of threads on dining, but haven't seen much info regarding hotels. We want to stay in the quarter or within short walking distance. Would prefer something in the "boutique/historical" category versus national chain outposts and around $200 a night give or take. Le Pavillion? Monteleone? Iberville Suites?

Suggestions? NOLAhorn, you around?

We just stayed at the Omni Royal Orleans during New Years/Sugar Bowl. Excellent location! It's right in the heart of the French Quarter. Very nice room. I'm not too keen on the bar, as there are better ones nearby.
Hotel Monaco is nice but it's on the other side of Canal Street from the Quarter. Not as convenient.
Enjoy!

Royal Sonesta is everything you are looking for but probably a little more than $200 per night depending on your dates. I assume you realize Mardi Gras takes place in February, so those dates are a mad house. Otherwise weekends are slightly more expensive than weekdays.

If money is a big issue, don't rule out the Canal St chains like Marriott, Sheraton, Doubletree and Westin. Those all sit right on the edge of the quarter.

Montelone is one of my favorites. Gotta love the rotating ring of barstools around the Carousel Bar.

Stayed at the Monteleone for a couple nights in June for a wedding. It was in a great location, the rooms were nice (they even upgraded us to the Penthouse suite for the first night...no idea why), but I didn't care for the rotating bar. After a few drinks that thing is dangerous!

The Monteleone is a classic joint, but the walls are thin and the rooms are small. Last time, there was a crying baby in the next room killing me as I was suffering through a terrible hangover.

If you want to try something boutique-ey, I suggest Hotel Le Richelieu. It's located closer to the Frenchman area, and away from the middle of the Bourbon Street mayhem.
