It is time discussion of the new recruits moved from the Rectuiting page to On The Field, since they are now officially longhorns. I have spent the morning trying to find video and other infor on the newest horns. So lets get the conversation started.

Acho reminds me of DJ with his athleticism and speed. He has just gotten the hang of the ball swat to cause a fumble but needs DJ to come back for a day and show him how to perfect it into a full on 20 yard flying fumble.

That's what I have been looking at, but I just want to make sure I'm not just looking with the burnt orange glasses on. Plus it is much more fun to see highlight videos or hear from people who have seen them play in person.

I have a watched Tre Newton in person. He is not really noted for his speed on paper but man he knows how to hit a hole, he is patient and finds them well, and when he is going down field no one catches him. I have seen him hurdle people down field and make cuts down field to prevent someone with better speed getting him from behind. It was impressive to see but not as much on paper.

PS I like Tre Newton's pedigree, just a few NFLers in his family tree.

They showed highlight videos during the press conference. The press conference with the highlight videos can be seen at that link

I'll be really interested to see how we arrange these defensive backs. Will either Brewster or Gideon see the field as Freshman at Safety? I think either one or both will have to.

What will Williams and Monroe do? I think a redshirt is likely for at least one of them, given our depth at CB. Then again, those two guys are so talented its hard to justify keeping them off the field.

Regardless, I'm extremely excited about all the depth and talent we have at Defensive Back for the next few years. Given the abundance of talented QB's in the Big 12 now, as well as the countless studs waiting in the wings in the 09 class, (many of whom will likely wind up throwing the ball for Big 12 schools) I think the most successful teams in the conference will be the ones with the most elite defensive backs. And I'm confident we'll have the best.

Texas Taps, maybe you can help me. I have been hoping for a site that will show past schedules, and next years schedules. Also, past results of games. I don't know where I would find one.

I like the WRs and LBs we picked up this year... especially the WRs (duh - we got two HS beasts.)

So who's the next "4"? Buckner or Grant?

I'm a bit concerned about Brock Fitzhenry, due to size and having never actually been a WR, but maybe he'll grow another inch or so. Even if he doesn't, he can probably add 10 pounds and keep his speed and elusiveness. I've always thought we could use a Wes Welker type player - (Welker was badass @TT). Look for his first reception to be a tunnel screen or a 2-yd hitch...

I would say DeSean Hales could be the Wes Welker clone, but I'm guessing he's probably like Quan Crosby.

Not to make this a race thing but I cant remember two white defensive backs getting DIV 1 scholarships to the same school, the same year

Fitzhenry will almost certainly play slot WR (our "Sub B" position). As an early indicator, he's wearing #83 this spring.
