Getting 78% approval over at Rotten Tomatoes. Comes out Thursday...anyone seen an advanced screening and have a review? Can't wait!

Been watching the Indiana Jones trilogy all weekend. Kinda psyched for it especially with the good reviews coming out

The word a few days ago (including from Mr. Moviephone) was that those who had seen the movie were not saying good things. Critics had not been allowed to see the film as yet.

The stated reason for delaying critical review, according to Mr. Moviephone who I caught on TV and think is a pretty good reviewer, was that they wanted it seen for the first time at Cannes this week.

Usually it is a bad sign if critics don't get to see a movie in time to write a review before it opens. I don't know if that fits this case or not.

They didn't let anyone see it until Sunday at Cannes, I think. And Roger Friedman, the entertainment reporter for Foxnews (who has pretty dead on reviews) said it was a lot of fun and a good addition to the Indy series.

Indy is greatness. I only hope they don't play too much on nostalgia as much as continuing the saga.

We'll see this as soon as it comes out.

this is coming from a die hard indy fan.....

it is easily one of the worst movies i have ever seen in my life.

absolutely terrible.

If you take it for what it is... you will be annoyed by the poor quality of the script, how stale the characters are, the woodeness of the delivery, the deviation in the portrayal of established characters, the fact that half of the movie is just so clearly shot in front of a green screen, the overuse of mediocre (not to mention poorly concieved) cgi effects, and the fact the storyline is just so very very bad.

If you just go to see a mediocre adventure film... then you may only be moderately disappointed. It's just so very very bad.

It was almost like the kid was the main character at times instead of Indy. That is why I didn't like it. That and Spielberg's ever obsessing need to explain everything away with aliens. Not a bad way to pass 2 hours but not exactly a good movie either.

I had extremely low expectations, but this was horrible. Real bad. Here are my basic thoughts:

- First hour was overdone, but at least slightly enjoyable.

- Second hour was one of the worst hours of Spielberg ever.

- Why was Karen Allen in this film?

- I really thought Spielberg could overcome the Lucas curse. I was wrong.

- Is it not possible to come up with something creative for a sequel? Maybe something along the lines of character development?

- Lucas is in the business of making kid's movies. For some reason, no one can communicate to the billionaire that the reason he made a billion dollars is because he made movies that were so real, kids could get lost in them. These movies are so fake, it's impossible to differentiate a Lucas film from a cartoon.

- I really hope someday Lucas will make amends for this last 10+ years and sign one of these two franchises away to someone with creative abilities. I would love to see someone with the gift's of a Christopher Nolan reinterpret either the Star Wars or Indy franchises.

- Clone Wars will be horrible as well, set for a late summer release. I will not see this.

- Sad day for my childhood. So sad...

I've got a question... and I'll use the spoiler tag, so highlight to read.
So 'Mutt's' name is Henry Jones III. I'm cool with him not putting 2 and 2 together when his mom sends him after "Indiana" Jones. But why is Oxley surprised? I mean he's been living with this kid as a surrogate father for most of his life, how does he not know the kid's actual name? Since he was a close personal friend of Indy and Marion, how does he not figure it out when she gives birth 8 months after Indy skips town?

Finally, understanding that "Indiana" was the dog's name, I suppose we are to take it as irony that his son chooses the name "mutt"... but it isn't irony if it is written into the story it is just a contrivance.

Took my family to see this one today. I thought it was OK. It looked like Lucas and Spielberg were having "American Graffitti" and "Amazing Stories" flashbacks with parts and pieces of the Indiana Jones mythos sprinkled in for good measure. Elements of it worked but the overall storyline was pretty weak.

I was able to enjoy it for what it was but I would not go out of my way to see it again, purchase the DVD, etc.
