New House Speaker Mike Johnson

Just heard his interview on Fox News. Republican (LA).

VERY sharp, well spoken, highly educated, law degree, conservative, Christian, very informed and opined on Americas critical issues.

I'm very impressed. Not sure what he can do in the house with big egos and a slim majority. Plus a Lib Senate and a walking dead POTUS.

We will see.

He said he is ready to send all our money to Ukraine and Israel. The cure was worse than the disease. Republicans are just Democrats with a different colored shirt on.

He has a record of voting against aid to Ukraine.
He does support Israel.
Doesn’t believe in same sex marriage or abortions.
He’s served as chairman of the subcommittee on Constitution & Limited Government.
He’s a devout Baptist.
Voted to repeal Obamacare.
He opposed certifying the 2020 election.
Opposed establishing Jan. 6 Panel.

what’s not to like?
I don’t think many Rs are in favor of sending 100 billion to Palestine like Biden.

Send all our money to Ukraine and Israel?
What did he actually say that leads you to that conclusion?
I am with you. Tired of bailing others out.
But I don't think he said anything that dramatic

He has voted against Ukrainian aid. True. He has also voted for Ukrainian aid and said recently that we should give more.

I've been burned too many to be optimistic, but I will appreciate whatever he does to reduce spending. The leading indicators aren't good though. I will be very glad to be wrong on this.

I was exaggerating of course. Go back and listen to the video clip I put in my post. It says everything.

He's not going to cut spending, but it won't be because he lacks the will. It will be because he doesn't have the votes. When the CR expires, he's going to have to make some kind of deal with Schumer, the White House, and MAGA people, none of whom want to cut spending in any meaningful way. He's not going to pass a bunch of appropriations bills and go to conference with the Senate. It takes too long and allows for too many political shenanigans. He'll either pass another CR, or he'll pass an omnibus appropriations bill.

In other words, he's going to do what Kevin McCarthy was on the path to doing, but it'll probably end up spending more money, because we have less leverage now than we had a month ago.

The Omnibus is the plan all along.

It's been 17 years since Congress passed an actual budget. The Omnibus has survived all combination of Republican/Democrat control of the White House, House, and Senate. It what everyone wants.

And why not? It's a way to spend unlimited amounts of money, on whatever politically and personally enriches an elected official, with no oversight, embarrassing questions, or accountability. Each party blames the other for "having" to pass the 3000 page bill that's been written in secret and passed with 28 minutes of debate.

They all claim it'll be different next year, but it's a lie, and only the gullible would ever believe it.

Duck, you capture the essence of the whole thing. After 17 years we can say that this is how the uniparty wants to conduct the business of the federal government. Ryan was a fraud. Mike Johnson will be one too.

There isn't any magic to passing a formal budget and 13 appropriations bills. We spent like drunken sailors when we took those steps too, because the process isn't and has never been the problem. It's a talking point for those on the outside to bring bad faith critiques. Back when we passed budgets, the appropriations committees sneaked pork and earmarks into the bills to get them passed. There wasn't any more accountability.

The problem is and always has been a lack of political will on the part of the public to rein in spending. Nobody wants to touch entitlements or cut defense to any meaningful extent. At most we want to nibble at the edges of a few relatively small items. Dems want to raise taxes some more for political reasons than budget reasons.

Does that mean we shouldn't pass budgets and appropriations bills? Of course not. However, it's foolish to assume that's a panacea or that doing so would take a big step toward fiscal responsibility. It won't. We can piss away just as much in 13 appropriations bills as we can in an omnibus. In fact, with more hands in the pot, we'd probably spend even more. And of course, none of that had anything to do with why MAGA people didn't like Paul Ryan or why Matt Gaetz showed his *** and handed Democrats a big political win.

So the House just passed a CR with no additional border funding and no spending cuts. Still worth shitcanning McCarthy and his 8 percent cut? If McCarthy had to vacate for what he tried to do, shouldn't Johnson be hanged?

Johnson hasn't been there long so no there won't be any changes soon. Some of the RINO stuff probably won't change like the Ukraine stuff. McCarthy's antics over the last few years and the nonsense he did today the party is better off without him.

Whether or not it's his fault the House midterms of 2022 is part of his resume.

So can we admit that this was never about passing CRs, border security, or cutting spending since the new guy just passed a CR, didn't secure the border, and didn't cut spending?

Perhaps but we have no idea what direction he will go for certain in the future. Personally, if he can do a better job during election time that's good enough for me.

Well, I think we have some idea what direction we're going. I don't think a Democratic Senate will push us to spend less. What came out of the House is probably the best we're going to see.

Mike Johnson is definitely a dud. He is a woke dud even worse. I posted the videos when he was first elected.

Great. Nice to see you are onboard! Jk.

I've had three beers, and I made homemade wood fired pizza. Don't take anything I say tonight very seriously.

This is the difference between McCarthy and Johnson. McCarthy would have voted for this border deal. Johnson saved us from this **** bill.

LOL. I love that attachment. I'm a big Weber guy, and I have the Performer Premium. It's just so damn versatile. You can grill burgers, chicken, etc., but you can also go low and slow and smoke brisket, ribs, etc. Furthermore, you can buy a crap-ton of attachments for it. That is the OnlyFire Pizza Ring (the ghetto version of the almost identical but significantly more expensive Kettlepizza). Put some wood chunks in with your charcoal, and it'll take the temperature into the 675 - 725 range. So long as you're using good ingredients and a decent pizza stone (which is included with the attachment), it'll give you pizza that blows away about 90 percent of the pizza you'd eat in a restaurant. I've had pizza in Italy that wasn't as good.
