I know this isn't the first time a move from Rosenblatt has been discussed, but it sounds like the City of Omaha is starting to lean that way.

I say renovate! I've only been once, in 2002, and it was amazing. What a park.

I'd prefer renovation also, but my understanding is that the situation has come down to either knock down and rebuild the 'Blatt or build a new park downtown. Also, a large part of the privately donated funds would not be available for the rebuild option.

Now that is simply my 3rd hand info, not gospel. If that's true, though, the decision is pretty simple. Sad, but simple.

Of course, after reading that article it seems that renovation is still possible. MAYBE, we might still be able to make a slight difference with the NCAA (sarcastic laugh) if we got enough people to contact them. I'll look into it this weekend.

However, I must say that my CWS "experience" has become less and less each time lately. With the NCAA taking over most of the admin functions surrounding the CWS and the police running people out of the parking lots an hour after the games, it just seems less hospitable each time we go.

Doesn't the Royals organization have something to say about this issue?

That might be one of the problems. Also, that might be why the city (ie the mayor) really wants a new stadium so that they don't have to deal with the Royals.

Remember, I said might. Ultimately, I have no idea.

I say move it to the Dell Diamond. That way When I go each year i dont have to travel that far.

Why is this necessary? The CWS wants more attendance, I suppose, more seats than Rosenblatt?
The event has lost a lot of the small town feel that is formerly had, but it is still a special time. I don't see what is so wrong with tailgating at the CWS-there has to be authoritarian rules makers that want to control everything these days.

Mike Fahey, Omaha's mayor, has his head up his ***. He wants a long-term contract with the NCAA, and he's using the NCAA's requirements to get a new stadium built.

But the location he's looking at--the parking lots near Qwest Center, put him at odds with MECA, the management company that runs pretty much everything about Qwest Center. Their head honcho is demanding that if a new stadium is build next to Qwest Center, that MECA be allowed to manage it.

Omaha politics. I hope to be leaving Nebraska and moving to Texas in a few years anyway, so Dell Diamond sounds good to me. I've always said the NCAA should move the CWS to a place where there is actually a college baseball fan base anyway. In Nebraska you just get a bunch of football jerseys who don't know the difference between a balk and a grand slam.

The plan is to have the Royals and Creighton Bluejays play at the new stadium, by the way.

You'll love Austin then. All decisions _here_ are based on making it very affordable and extra convenient for the fans and supporters. Everyone gets their way and rarely is heard a discouraging word.

For the sake of intellectual honesty, I hope that those who post in favor of renovation of Rosenblatt are consistent in their clinging to tradition, and likewise think that the TX/OU football game should stay at a renovated Cotton Bowl in Fair Park rather than a move to Jerryworld.

I guess I will be a dick here, but I kind of like the new stadium plan. The parking around Rosenblatt isn't that great, and I think I would like the downtown location.

That said, I don't hate Rosenblatt, the tradition, etc.

$140 million? 24,000 permanent seats? I thought the reasons for building this were:
-Rosenblatt renovation too expensive ($50 million)
-Rosenblatt has too few seats for CWS (~23,000)
-Rosenblatt has too many seats for Royals (~23,000)

Yeah, I see exactly why we need to steamroll the CWS for this horsesh*t.
