Texas Lands a Commitment: I will start today’s Open Post off by addressing the rumors swirling all over Twitter regarding a possible commitment Texas received. I won’t mention the name but I’m sure most of you know who it is. I will say that I have confirmed that the recruit has committed to Texas and will make his decision public tomorrow (Friday)

link (some other stuff worth reading in it) http://texas.thefootballbrainiacs.com/2015/11/open-post-thursday-nov-5th/

The rumor is that it is OL Denzel Okafor of Lewisville
other possibles based on the visitor list -- Tucker or Elliott

DE Malcolm Roach (6'3,255) of Baton Rouge, LA (Madison Prep Academy)

"...... Some other points to consider. This is a Brick Haley ‘get’ and a good one. With New Orleans’ Peyton Aucoin, Destrehan’s Gerald Wilbon, and now Roach, perhaps UT can start lacing up some more players from Da Boot, and landing one continues to help beget others.

Excerpt from the Recruiting Notebook:

How he fits at Texas: Roach is the prototypical Charlie Strong recruit, a 3-star from a region known for producing football players who will probably grow into something fearsome on campus. In this case, the 6-foot-2, 250 pound kid is likely to end up a swing DL that moves between playing defensive end or tackle at 270 or even 300. Roach is capable of great violence and explosiveness over short distances and even has some attention as a linebacker and TE prospect but he’ll do his best work as a stunting DL in a defense like Charlie’s. – Ian Boyd

Coach Says: First of all, I’ve always liked defensive lineman from Louisiana. They’re big, nasty, and play with a desperate disposition. But the impressive part is seeing this 6-foot-4, 250-pound lineman split out wide, catching passes. It goes to show his athletic ability and upside. He plays a little high – needs lower pad level, but has good feet, balance, shows a good first step off the snap. He played OLB at Madison Prep, but I see him as a DE at the next level. If he can add mass without losing functionality, I could see him at WDE or even SDE with the correct weight. Lots to like about this cat. Leave it up to Brick Haley to find another gem. Did I mention he’s from Da Boot?....."

I don't think Roach was the "big commit" that was rumored to happen today. That player has still not announced. We seem to have a big commit to still come, soon. Roach was actually a bit of a surprise, from what I gather.

Roach is a very good player though. Appears to be very well evaluated by Strong. His star ratings won't wow you, but the tape apparently does, from what some recruit gurus are saying.

from an LSU site

"Roach is a kid who is not going to wow you with his measurables. But put on his tape and watch him in a competitive situation and all he does is make plays.

He could play inside linebacker but is also versatile enough to slide outside and rush the passer.

He reminds me of Kendell Beckwith in several ways. One is he could play linebacker or defensive end, and both at a very high level. His body also reminds me of Beckwith coming out of high school."

Per a poster on another site:
FYI, Bobby Burton just confirmed this was NOT the Friday commit previously discussed.

This is NOT the player I mentioned. That player is still trying to arrange a TV situation as far as I know.
