New Beatles remasters

Anyone bought and listened to the Beatles remastered CDs? If so, are they as good as advertised?

A buddy bought Sgt Peppers and it sounds pretty good. But since that is not one of my favorite albums I am not sure how much better than the original. I might get Revolver and Rubber Soul

I bought the Beatles Stereo Boxset and I love it. I absolutely love it. The wife wasn't happy with the purchase (we're remodeling and expecting our first), but I couldn't resist and a night in the doghouse was more than worth it.

And she loves it, too, so she can't stay mad.

I broke down last night and ordered 2 sets of the boxed stereo set - one for me, and one for my Dad for Christmas.

Aside from the cost, which almost made me sick to my stomach, I'm really looking forward to it.

Is the "stereo" set just the early stuff?

Or does this cover everything through Let it Be?

It is every studio album from Please Please Me to Let It Be. There is also a double CD called "Past Masters" with songs like "Lady Madonna" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" for non-album tracks.

I think it's $300 (or $299). I don't know if that's for the complete set or not.

The more I hear the Beatles (or The Beatles) the more I think they're the greatest of all time.

I'd go with mono, since most of the originals were mono...then converted to stereo at a later date. I'm already hearing amazing things about the mono set. Also, it's my understanding that the Beatles were very hands on with the mono recordings but not so much with the stereo releases.

Sadly, I ordered both from Amazon; no need to tell the girlfriend about this one, for now (it hasn't shipped yet). I am cursed as an audiophile.

If I had to chose one, I would have ordered the mono box set and then gotten Abby Road and Let It Be, separately. These two albums were not mixed for mono (thus, not part of the mono box set). Also, I would have to buy the stereo Past Masters as well.

There is a good customer posting in Amazon titled "A Cheapskate's (Relatively) Guide to the Mono and Stereo Re-Issues" when you click on The Beatles Mono Box Set. He presents good reasons why he prefers either the stereo or mono version for each album.

I have the sinking feeling that in the future that EMI will take advantage of Blu-ray technology and re-re-reissue the set on Blu-ray (volume 1 of the Neil Young Archive box set is getting rave reviews on the sound quality: all tracks are in ultra high resolution 24 bit/192 khz stereo PCM).
