Brad Mills was hired Tuesday by the Astros, taking over as manager of a team that has missed the postseason four straight seasons despite having one of baseball's highest payrolls.

The hiring ends a month-long search to replace Cecil Cooper, who was fired Sept. 21.

The Astros will introduce Mills at a 3 p.m. press conference at Minute Maid Park.

I don't understand the Manny Acta love. He led the Washington Nationals to three straight years in the pits of the NL East with the worst ERA in the league 2 out of the 3 years.

Washington doesn't have the best talent in baseball. The Marlins just hired the pitching coach that the Nats fired mid-season.

that just means he has a buddy there. that's how all baseball jobs are doled out, even moreso than football

I think Fl. has shown they have good mgmt. Manny Acta would have been a good hire for Houston but they shorted him on # of years. If he can do anything with that train wreck in Cle., I will be impressed.

Mills seems like a good guy who has paid his dues in the minors and majors. Apparently had a lot of input into the Red Sox coaching staff and was highly regarded there. Willing to give him a chance and see what he can do with the Astros.
