New Article sheds light on the Russell decommit

The thing about Horn recruiting if you don't commit when offered it may not be there when you make up your mind. Unless your a super star..

kind of sad that it's come to this much high-pressure that if you don't commit before your junior year has even ended, you don't get a chance.

I guess players need to adjust. Are players already going to summer camps after freshman and sophomore years?

If not, they need to do that. Spend a week in Austin, wherever else you think you might go.

I would not think that Quincy has burned any bridges with the coaching staff at this point. It was very mature of him to call and inform the coaches instead of stringing things along. I hope we get him in the end. Based on the article, I like our chances.

If he had second thoughts, or felt he should honor his promise to visit other schools, or just wanted the recruiting process to continue, it is OK-he should feel good about his important decision. It looks like UT will add more big names to this class (hoping so, at any rate) and we should only become more attractive as the months go by.
So give him some space but keep in touch and let him know we are still interested.

My first reaction after the de-committment was "oh well, your loss Quincy". Now, I think this kid deserves some credit. We've seen way too many kids secretly hold in these feelings and continue to shop around while holding a commit spot. I hope Russell ends up at Texas, but regardless of where he goes I'm glad he owned up to the fact that he might have been premature.

Well not saying he burned any bridges, he was upfront and handled himself well. It's just the case of a spot may not be available whenever his choice is made. And when you look at the amount of beef we have committed it's highly possible there won't be.It's just a fact when high profile schools come calling you may only have a certain window of oppurtunity.

I respect the fact that he admitted he committed too early and didnt feel comfortable with it. Most guys would have second thoughts and decommit alot later in the process.

Quincy,
Take all the time you need to figure this thing out. This is one of the most important decisions you will ever make in your entire life so you should feel 100% comfortable when you make it.

I think that proximity to San Antonio is going to help us land this kid if we still have the space when he is ready to commit. The article mentioned that Quincy wants his mom to be able to see him play. It also mentioned that she requires regular dialysis. It looks like everything still points towards Texas.

I sure hope Coach Greene hasn't cost the young man a chance at his dream from whatever his personal agenda is.

How would coach Green have cost him anything? The kid committed and had second thoughts, all coach Green did was advise him to let the Texas coaches know ASAP.

Coach Green did the right thing by both Texas and his player, it's up to our coaches to determine if they want to still pursue this kid. And with the commitment of Reed, I really don't see how we still have room for him, so in essence I think his ship has sailed as far as Texas is concerned.
