New AP Poll with Big

Seems very strange to me that teams which have not played a game yet can even be ranked. Rather destroys what little credibility these beauty contests possess.

Not only exactly but look how wrong they were last week with Oklahoma and LSU. Really ridiculous. Add to that the admissions of Art Briles that he torpedoed Texas with his vote. Really needs to be a better way.
 
I think it is clear after just two weeks this will not be a "normal" season.
Gonna be all over the map and harder to predict who's who and what's what.

Why? The only team ranked lower than us that I would be concerned about next week is BYU. In front of us Miami and Georgia I think are overrated. But time will tell. I think Texas could run the tables if they get their tackling and O line issues straight. Talent and speed are evident. Needs to be used properly. Texas could lose two or three games in the regular season but Covid will be the wild card for us and many teams. I suspect some teams or a conference will just stop playing at some point. Really will be a mess. but for now Texas is a top ten team and "probably will be" after TCU and Oklahoma, and should be if Texas wins. I think Georgia or auburn will drop next week and Miami beating the heck out of an FSU team, well FSU may not win another game. Granted it is still early but Texas should be ranked in the top 10-15 even with the 30 teams that have not played a down included.
 
Outrageous that they have Pac-12 and Big 10 schools ranked with no play. Should not be added until their seasons start.

I agree...but if you subscribe to this^^^^^ notion then you also must be an opponent of preseason polls all together, right?

Miami's meteoric rise is impressive. They must have one heck of a coach down there or something ...

Seriously, I think Manny is in his element in his hometown of Miami. The 'stars just align' for him at that location. It's a major recruiting hotbed and Miami has been a sleeping giant for years. Couple that with the decline of FSU, and it's a great place to build a program. I wish Manny good fortune. I just don't want him to ever come back as our DC.

During a normal season when there are like 18 total games in "week zero", do those 8 winners all shoot up into the top 10?
 
Kinda funny comment LD cause I think “tackling and OL” are sorta
important in good football? As in perhaps most critical to being top 10?
Just thinking out loud.

I, for one, get and sorta agree with your sentiment, even though I agreed with the original post on this subject.....except if there is no preseason poll then no one is shooting up after week one.. They all just appear...based on how they looked week 1 combined with what expectations were already there.
I know this will never happen. I am just not a fan of preseason or even early season polls as they provide both biased, prejudiced and subjective advantages and disadvantages and are based greatly in presumption, whether accurate or not. My observation is, outside of the top 3 or 4 in some order....its mostly not.
I'm just in the some games should be played before assertions made crowd.
 
This season everything is totally screwed-up. Spring practice either didn't happen or was cut short; fall practice was interrupted by positive tests; separate meetings for player groups with separate coaches. No one knows what game(s) are going to be postponed or canceled.

Now two leagues who have not played a down are going to be lobbying for a place in the CFP by playing as few as 6 games?
 
Preseason top 10 is ridiculous and I too believe all teams must play 2-3 games before any rankings are considered....!

How can they justify ranking any team that won't play a game for another 3-8 weeks!! At least SEC had a real plan that close to ACC and Big 12's plan.

I agree. It gives too big of an advantage to teams who start out higher, since falling the same distance doesn't put them as far from the top.
