so it turns out a ******* woodpecker popped through the stucco on the side of the house, and has burrowed his way into the inner wall. I can hear the bird though the drywall.

I really dont want to kill it, but I want it out of the wall so i can seal the hole and also hopefull get some sort of product that smells bad to the bird so it doesnt come back.

any suggestions- other than shoot it with a BB gun.

If it really is building a nest, it will repeatedly fly in and out bringing twigs and other materials for nesting. Observe and make sure it is gone, then glue heavy wire over the opening, then you can repair the hole at a later date. You could hang some streamers over the area as well to deter the bird, might work.
