If you're a Rush fan you might enjoy this 15 minute interview where Neil Peart gives some song-by-song history on the writing and recording of the Moving Pictures album — which is, uh, thirty years old now. Damn.

I always knew he was really smart, and this is an impressive interview.

Wow. You dont see many (or any, that i can recall) long form interviews with that guy. He's an amazing cat, and that album changed my life.

Moving Pictures is a tour de force. Side one alone is arguably one of the most impressive sides of an album with Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, YYZ, and Limelight forming a killer quartet. On this tour, they play The Camera Eye in full length.

Rush hits Austin this Sunday. See ya there!

Between that interview and the Letterman appearance it seems Neil is stepping outside his personal comfort zone which is good to see.

Flew into Austin for the weekend to see the show... can't wait!

I saw Rush in late '78 or early '79 as a freshman at The University. I was then and am still enthralled with those guy's ability to be busy during the performance. Dang they were good.

Thanks for posting this excellent link!

They released Moving Pictures on Blu-Ray. Haven't had a listen yet, but the CD included is killer and IMHO is the best of the lot sound-wise. It has a great sound just like my original Dutch pressing that I guard in the vault!

This was and is a really great album by a tremendously talented band. In my opinion this is their last work that deftly found the sweet spot between rock and roll and various other genres of music. As most probably know, Mr. Peart has dealt with a lot of tragedy in his personal life as well, so it's nice to see him looking well here.

Moving Pictures was the first, and still one of the best, concerts I ever attended. Few bands sound as "tight" live as they do on recording. One of my favorite albums!

I Saw them in OKC in 82 with Golden Earring, Two great bands and two great albums, Easily top three all time on my list,
