Need to sell a maroon car

My wife's grandfather passed away on the 16th. My wife is named as the executor of his will (which should be probated on May 2nd).

She will eventually need to sell his brand new 2005 Buick Le Sabre Custom which he bought about a month before his passing. The car has less than 4,000 miles on it and he paid it off completely.

Suggestions on how to sell it reasonably quick for top dollar? The car is too new to have a Blue Book valuation...

How quick is reasonably quick? You're definitely going to get more selling it yourself then you would taking it to CarMax or something. Look into listing it through AutoTrader.com or another site.

BTW, why does the car have 4000 miles on it if the grandfather only had it for a month before he died?

yeah i was gonna ask the same thing - 4,000 miles in a month is pretty hardcore, especially for an elderly man...

It has about 3,600 miles on it. He liked to drive around all over (to Galveston mostly) and look at places where he grew up. He might have had it for two months. I didn't look up the exact date of purchase.

I was wondering if it would make more sense to sell it through the paper/autotrader or include it as part of an estate sale (with an auction house?)?

The thing my family has had the most luck with is the newspaper. Unfortunately with the car being so new, I don't know how many people could afford the vehicle without somehow getting it financed. I know financing used vehicles is pretty much non-existent once they reach a certain age/number of miles so maybe it is possible on a new vehicle. I'd start with the newpaper just to see what kind of reponse you get.

As a side note, the whole thing of how he drove around where he grew up recently is kinda cool. It is a nice thought he got to do this in the comfort of a comfy car and before he passed. Respects to your family.

I second the Auto Trader. And yes, put it in the one that covers College Station too. Put an aggy sticker in the back of it for that ad, serious.
