Need suggestions for BBQ and Mexican food

My parents are coming in town from Maryland for the first game of the year and they want to go to "the best BBQ and mexican food restaurants in town".

Any suggestions?

I don't know about Mexican food, but there have been some pretty heated discussions about barbeque lately. Look around, I think it was a couple of weeks back that I saw it. I'm hoping to try some more places for Q when I come down for a game this fall. Good luck

By Mexican do you mean TexMex or authentic, interior Mexican food?

If authentic Mexican, the best in town (pricey but worth it) is Fonda San Miguel. Great Sunday buffet. You probably should make reservations if you want to take your parents there on a home game weekend.

If Tex-Mex, you'll probably get a different answer from everyone you ask. I like Guero's, Trudy's and Jaime's.

Honestly, you could probably take them to a host of places and they would think they are great.

Just pick what you like and have fun.

Maninblack, just to be clear, hornface is ******* with you. Hard.

And as for my suggestions, for a combo of good food and the "experience":

BBQ -- John Meuller's (lunch only), Salt Lick (byob, pretty scenery, classic Texas setting). If you are willing to venture within an hour of town, the big 3 are SOLID -- Kreuz market in Lockhart and Cooper's in Llano are my faves.

Tex-Mex -- Angie's, Dario's, El Azteca. Note that these are all on the East side, and have "character." Other good choices are Maudie's and Casa Garcia.

And finally, my REAL suggestions for BBQ and Mexican food:

EAT LOTS OF BOTH. REPEAT.

with out of town people, any Tex-Mex place is fine. Seriously, they can't tell the difference.. Just take them to Chuy's.

If you want to show them that Texas' Hill Country is gorgeous, take them to Cooper's. Their meat smokes the hell out of Salt Lick or just about anywhere else. The drive is awesome. There is a Dairy Queen next to it for desert. Get them Blizzards. Trust me, the drive to Llano and that area is awesome. Even if the food at Cooper's was not as awesome as it is, it would still be worth it.

If you don't have an hour to spend on the drive, go to Salt Lick. What their food lacks, which is not too much, is made up tenfold in the atmosphere.

If you want to get out of downtown and see some of the hill country, Rosie's Tamale House off of 71 is excellent. It is BYOB. Take 71 West towards Llano, past 620 and look for it about 2 miles on the right.
