Need some London advice

I'm going to be in London for 4 days and am planning on going the route of apartment rental. Looking for advice as to what area of London is best to stay in. My criteria are convenience to:

a) the tube/tourist sights
b) reasonably affordable eating options
c) "safety" of area

I have two options I'm looking at right now:

1) Apartment in Mayfair, closest station is Green Park.
2) Apartment in Westbourne Gardens (near Notting Hill), closest station is Royal Oak.

If any of you familiar with London have insight, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

can't help you with any of that, but let me suggest bringing your own toothpaste. we ran out/lost our last time, and whatever substance they are passing off as toothpaste in the drug stores over there is the most godawful stuff you can imagine. it's no wonder they have a reputation for bad teeth. i wouldn't brush my teeth either if i had to use that ****.

Both those areas are fine. You can get to most tourist spots very easily on the tube or bus. Mayfair is going to be more central, but not as funky as Notting Hill area. As in any city, just be a little streetwise & don't look like a target with flashy jewelry etc.

As for the toothpaste, **** knows where you were shopping?
They sell colgate, crest, all the **** you get here so you must have been scavenging in a trash can for your dental care or something.

Either is ok, but I prefer around Green Park. From the Green Park Station you can walk to everything except the east en/Canary Wharf..
