Need mover - TX to CA

Got a great job offer in southern California - would really prefer to stay in Austin, but the job market here for non-techies isn't the greatest. Anyway, I need to move by the end of the month. Does anyone have recommendations on movers?

If you can plan it around the Rose Bowl, I'm in and I'm riding in the PSI "party trailer"!

i did the move from austin to NorCal a while back, and I found that you can't really get a whole lot better than the big movers like mayflower, which is who i wound up using. it's going to be expensive as heck no matter what you do.

Thanks for the recommendations. The new company is paying for relocation, though they capped it at $4000. For a single guy, I've got a bunch of stuff - probably a 2 bedroom apartment's worth. I'll need to call for an estimate.

Companies charge by the pound. Use a large carrier (they are all pretty similar - Allied, United, Mayflower, etc.) for the expensive and not so heavy items. Then use ABF (where you have to load and unload it yourself) for the rest. If you move books, dryers, refrigerators, and heavy furniture by ABF you will save a lot of money.

If you haven't finished negotating with the new company, try to get your relocation (driving your car, staying in hotels, and incidentals) on a separate budget from the other moving expenses.
