need help with home network

I just bought a wireless router and a wireless network card . I have installed both and can get on the internet from both my desktop (ethernet cable) and my notebook (wireless). I can not "see" the other computer in network fashion. I want to be able to access files on my desktop from the laptop. How do I set up the network part of the wireless network? Both computers are running windows 2000.

Both computers have to be part of the same Workgroup. Right click on your Computer properties - find the Identity tab where your computer is "named". In that same section, you will be able to name the computer's Workgroup. Once both have an identical Workgroup - they will see each other. Then you need to do the sharing thing.

I finally fixed it. I had some ultra secret firewalls that prevented me from seeing the computers. Once I cut those out it worked like a charm
