Need help with cell phones

I am going to pick up a couple of cell phones this weekend, but I am still not sold on any company yet. I want 2 phones that I can use on the same plan. My first choice was Nextel, but their share plan was very piss poor.
First of all, I want some phones with a strong signal that will work indoors. I work in a hospital and my older model Verizon wont pick up a bar, but yet I see everyone else talking away. My lady's AT&T wireless wont work in the house, so we hope to correct these problems soon.
Pretty much asking the Do's and Don'ts that you all have come across when buying cells phones. Thanks for the info.

why not ask the knobs you work with what works best for them at the hospital, it's called "taking a survery". our opinions are squat as we don't work w/ you. is using it at work a big deal? I would think along the drive home or out and about. mone works great at the house but I loathe using it there. if I'm at home I want the call on my land line or my office line.

It used to be a big deal about using cell phones in hospitals, but a lot of hospitals now aren't that strict on that rule. You'll still see signs up saying that cell phones may interfere with some machines, but I have never heard of anything happening.
