Need Help/Suggestions

I am in somewhat of a "contest" with some guy friends. The deal is you suggest a long weekend trip (Thurs-Sun). You have to have the whole weekend planned out, and must budget the trip down to between $500-$700/person. Whichever trip is the best is the trip we go on this summer. Here is the example that was given with the contest...

If you want to do California, rent a cabin in Big Bear Mountain outside Los Angeles. You can get a damn fine cabin for about $300 - $500 per night.

There is a lake up there for hanging out, and the ski resort is open for mountain biking (rentals available) which can be as challenging or entry level....you ride the ski lift up, and there are multiple routes down.

There are grocery stores, etc. in the area so you can cook some of your own meals if you don't want to go out.

I did this with a group a few years ago, and it was a blast.

Since you have multiple airports you can fly into, you can bargain shop air fares.

weekend trips are for sissies. also, tell your non-outdoorsy friends that this will put hair on their balls:
The San Juan Hut System

both the Telluride-Moab (original) and Durango-Moab (sounds fun) trips are $620 per person.

otherwise, i would suggest just going to vegas. it can be done for cheap throughWorry Free Vacations. They fly out of Dallas, and you can rent a car + air + hotel on the strip easily under $500 for a long weekend.

edit: i just built a trip through worryfree for 6 guys on july 12-15.
airfare from dallas = $1,441.74
3 rooms at mandalay bay = $1,806 (there are WAY less expensive options. i like the flamingo, for one)
rental minivan = $154 (plus taxes later, will probably be $250)
grand total = $3500
split 6 ways = $583 per person.

just eat at buffets and in-n-out burger, and you've got some cash to gamble.

I really like to two suggestions so far, keep them coming. I prefer an outdoors trip.

As far as Vegas goes, we go at least once a year, sometimes more. I should have mentioned before, one of the rules was "not Vegas."

Fly to B.C.

Rent a place at Whistler, spend a day or two trying downhill mountain biking on A-Line and Freight Train. Two legendary trails. Whistler partying at night. Giribaldi Provincial Park is right there too, it'ss pretty big.

Sea kayaking or fishing outside of Vancouver Saturday, doing Vancouver at night, then fly home Sunday.

Canadian dollar works to your advantage.
