Any recommendations? The last guy who worked on this car managed to take us for $1,100, much of which was no doubt unnecessary. It's nice to see he's now out of business.
I don't usually recommend going to dealers, but we've had great luck with First Texas Honda on Koenig Lane right by McCallum High School. My wife has a '92 Accord and we've had them perform all necessary service (which hasn't been much, since it's a Honda). They've always been very good at letting us know if they find anything wrong, and how critical it is, without pressuring us to fix minor items.
Also, when I finally had the timing belt replaced at 160K miles, they charged me about $75 less than the lowest of 3 quotes I got from other mechanics.
If you call them, ask for the customer service rep named "Trudy"-- she's always taken good care of us.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm thinking about buying a new Accord next month, so maybe I could get a little leverage on their shop with that possibility. (Not likely. There seems to be a pretty big disconnect between the guys up front and the guys in back at most dealerships.)
I wouldn't be wanting to trade the old car in, but just get it running well to sell, or maybe keep for a spare. After the last round of service, I was surprised as to how good a motor is in that car. (It's my wife's old car, so I've never driven it.)
accuratehorn is a hornfans member who runs a Honda repair shop. He gave me some advice on an Acura that was giving me trouble. His shop is Accurate Autoworks, 670-1275.
We have always been happy with the Honda Acura Dealership Alternative, 323-9100 (they service Toyota too). For example, the last scheduled maintenance for our 4Runner cost about 40% less that what the dealer would have charged. Honest, nice folks.
I fully and wholeheartedly second the recommendation for Accuratehorn. Great guy. I know a couple of people who have dealt w/ him and they are superbly happy. Also, you are helping out a wonderful Horn fan as well.
