Need a quick cheap getaway

I'm in dire need of several days away. I don't really want to drive and I can't party. I'm partial to blue water and also to cool mountain streams. Any suggestions? Oh, and I probably can't go to Mexico.

No booze. I think everything else is OK, but I'm not really sure what kinds of blood tests they are conducting on me.

Cheapest place to go is Cancun. Check Contnental and FunJet/SunJet for deals. If you can't do Mexico, check their deals to Nassau.

Other option is Destin; fly into Fort Walton or Tallahassee and drive over.

The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs or all of the ski resorts have bargains right now.

Sounds like you may be in need of a little hill country. Go get a cabin on the Frio and chill for a few days. I've stayed at the Frio River Cabins twice and had great times.

Tried to get up to the family place on the Medina River today. The rain was nice, but it made the river muddy and there was no power and no A/C was a dealbreaker.

My doctors run blood tests on me all the time for all sorts of reasons and I know they frequently check me for ethanol and recreational drug use. I think it's a requirement from the organ donation organization.

Looks like the stars might line up. $150 roundtrip to Denver. Free tickets to the Wyoming game. Fishing guide going to call me back.

Might sound nutty but try The Other Place on the comal in New braunfels. No TV, no Phone, blue river that is actually still flowing and try Huisache grill for some great food!

Not exotic, but close to home, and nothing feels better than the cool waters of the comal on a hot day.

I'm going to fly to Denver on the 10th and hike and fish in the RMNP on my way to Cheyenne. I have a guide booked all day on the 11th to fish the Upper North Platte then Dinner in Laramie. The next morning I have the guide booked again and he is a huge Cowboys fan so we are going to quit in time to go to the game. A leisurely drive through the area and a late flight home on Sunday. Maybe another stop in the park, but I'll probably just fish some creek along the way. I'm going to take my bamboo 1 wt. for that and try to catch some flying fish.

Gierach once wrote something along the lines of that he thinks you should measure yourself as a fisherman not by how big a fish you can catch, but by how small a fish you can catch and still be happy all the while not losing hope that there is still a big one out there for you. I'm going to go get some happy.

Even if I don't catch any fish at all.
