Yah, the Longhorns lost to Nebraska earlier this year. Don’t care.
Back in 2007, the Horns were swept in Lincoln, 3-0. But then the Huskers came to Austin and we swept them back, in front of 4,286 crazed fans.
In 2008, same deal: we lost 3-1 there, and won 3-1 here. Michelle Kocher set that 2008 win, by the way – in front of 4,324 fans.
Of course, in 2009 we won home and away.
I still remember that 2007 match. The Huskers had that great team with Pavan, Larson, and Stalls. They were ranked #1 in the country and were undefeated. In fact, they had lost only one set all year. UT had had some early season losses, but had continued to improve. They were ready for Nebraska. Our team captains passed out wrist bands that said “Be a Lifter and Leave a Legacy.” A beat down ensued. The undefeated number one team in the country went down -22, -25, -20.
2008 was just as stirring. Another epic battle, this one with closer games. We struggled with serve-receive – sound familiar? But Destinee was in Very-Few-Humans mode. Michelle Kocher had 40 sets, 6 digs, 3 blocks and an ace.
Coming to this year, we may not have Destinee and Ashley, but we have a whole team full of players with game. Rachael, Jen, Amber and Juliann are all playing well, and hopefully Sha'Dare is OK. Sarah is doing great as libero, and Kocher has had two matches to prep.
Just to add to the nuttiness, the announcer asked everyone to wear costumes that night. If we get people wearing orange skin suits on regular nights, what are we gonna get at Halloween? Should be wild!
