Nebraska reminds me of our 1968 team.

I know they are 9 -3 but they still remind me of our 1968 team. In 1968 we played ten games during the season and started off not too good. We had a tie and loss in the first two games but when we made a late drive to beat Oklahoma that team got it's act together and won all the rest of their games including the Cotton Bowl. I think once they had their act together they were the best team in the country and could have beat USC or Ohio State.

Nebraksa started off slow and were 4-3 but they started playing and won 5 straight games before they played us. Like us they got their act together and by the time they played us I think they were one of the top 5 or 6 teams in the country and if they don't let the loss get them down they should win their bowl game. This was not no patsy that almost beat us but a team that was tough and determined and was playing good. But we were able to win.

Point made, but as soon as Street was installed as the QB, the '68 team was unbeatable with the '69 teams being one of the best for that time.

With the incrediable easy schedule they have in 2010, NU should lose 2 (Texas and the South Champion). The guts of their defense will be gone, and they still do not have the skilled offensive players to beat a balanced team (i.e.Texas).

Right you are Viper. It made all the difference when Street became our QB and Bill Bradley was moved to defensive back.

Another point about Nebraska is that very very few teams this year would have beat that Nebraska team Saturday night.

Agree on Nebraska Bill. When you line up for Texas you had better be ready for the other side's best. If Nebraska had played with the same focusness against VT, sand aggy and ISU, it would have been #3 v. #4 Saturday night.

Our 1968 team didnt have trouble getting first downs. In games agaisnt us and OU, both very good defensive teams, the Huskers got a total of 10 (yep 5 each) first downs.

With that said, as a fan of this game, my heart does ache for the Husker fans who have had much more than thier share of things like this.

Bill...if I remember correctly we played Tenn. in the Cotton Bowl and just blew them out. By the end of that year we had an incredible team and just continued it on into the next year.
