Yesterday they had the worst round of any team in the four rounds and today they have tied for the second best round of any team in the four rounds. Very schizo performance is going to leave them in a tie for13th finish. They did finish two strokes ahead of aggy. If they had played yesterday anywhere close to their other three rounds they would have been looking at top 5 finish.

Men are up next weekend and if they play to potential have real shot at the NC.

Great result for the women; congrats to the staff and players. Finishing tied for 13th with your top player, and defending conf champion, sidelined with a season-ending injury...no easy feat. We can only specualate what might have happened with Pressel in the lineup, but it was nice to see the team fight and finish strong without her. Great job, Horns!

They must have celebrated their second round a bit too heartily. Had their third round matched their next highest score they would have finished fourth or fifth. It appears that this team is on the right track.

BTW, nice to beat ATM one more time.

The men have qualified for the match play tournament by finishing third out of a field of 30 teams. They play Washington today in the quarterfinals. Horns have best round of any team at even par but also have shot an 11 over par in a round so like women they have been somewhat schizo. Hoping the "good" Horns show up the next three days.

Horns lead Washington 1-0 and have lead in three of remaining four matches with fourth all square through 17. In two of matches Horns are one hole from closing out so they are in great shape and just need to finish well in two of three matches. Meanwhile UCLA is one hole away from getting upset by Oregon the seventh seed and should Texas hold on they would play winner of that matchup tomorrow.

2-0 as Speith gets 4 and 3 win. Earlier win was Hakula 3 and 2. Fritelli is up 3 with 3 to play and just needs to halve one hole to get Texas the win. Vegas is also 3 up with 5 to play while Gribble is all square through 16.

Oregon with upset 3-2 over UCLA who were basically playing on their home course; definitely the preferred opponent of the two though Oregon has been hot the past couple of days.

Fritelli lost the 16th and is 2 up with 2 to play. Lets end this now!

Gribble wins 17 and is now 1 up with 1 to play. He and Fritelli just need to halve one of three holes between the two of them to close out this match up.

Fritelli closes out his match and Horns now have insurmountable 3-0 lead.

They play Oregon tomorrow afternoon in national semifinals.

Gribble wins 18 to win 2 up to make final score 4-0. Vegas was 2 up with 2 to play but apparently halves his match once Texas got clinching third point. That means all five were on way to winning today which is outstanding performance. Two days in a row the Horns have played up to their number one ranking. Two more similar days to go lets hope.

Thanks for the updates and explanations. I don't understand it, but I don't need to. All I need to know us if we're winning.

It is match play, meaning you just count the holes a player wins over the other player. You par and your opponent bogeys, you get a point. If both players par, or both birdie, the hole is halved, or tied.

If you are up 1 and 2, that means you are up by one hole with two to play.

You can win without playing all 18 if you are up by more points than there are holes left to play. Example: If you are up by 3 after 16, you win 3 and 2.

Just got the 3rd game against Ducks. 3-2 is worst case scenario. Spieth down 1 on 18th, looks like they stopped play since it was over as soon as Vegas won. On to the Finals against Bama!

Had to be away all afternoon with family obligations and just got home to see the great news!

Even with Speith and Fritelli losing the Horns still advance and that shows the depth of this team. Great shot tomorrow against the hottest team in the tournament Bama.

I'm glad it worked out so that the #1 (Texas) and #2 (Bama) teams in the counrty are facing off for the championship. Individual rankings don't necessarily mean anything at this point (the nation's top two players, Speith and Fritelli, both lost their matches yesterday), but on paper it looks good for the Horns. In four of five of today's matchups the Horns have the higher ranked player (#1 Speith vs. #4 Thomas, #2 Fritelli vs. #19 Whitsett, and #20 Vegas vs. #79 Hamrick). Only Hakula (#67) is facing a higher ranked opponent in Wyatt (#14). The other match features two unranked players, Gribble and Strohmeyer, but IIRC Gribble has been ranked previously, or in prior years. Bama has had a great tourney thus far, as have the Horns, but if we play like we are capable we should win today.

This is a great run so far. Hoping we end the NC draught today.
How are you guys getting updates on this tournament? It is not televised or on other media that I can find.
I didn't know until this morning how we did yesterday.
The set-up seems like a strange format, but there are different variations of the game in golf, and this tournament uses two separate games to arrive at the champion. Maybe that gives it more interest (?).
