I have said this before and will now say it again. In any other sport, if that kind of domination lasted for this long, the athletes would be peeing into cups and the coach would be under investigation. And I am not sure that I am joking.
Wouldn't it be great it Geno were actually a wonderful ambassador for the sport? Had something nice to say about other teams and coaches. How much better would his accomplishmenst be if he wasn't an arrogant @$$. But he wins, and for some of you, I realize that is all that matters.
It is just so very interesting (NOT) how the ESPN tools truly seem to believe that everyone on earth slobbers over UConn as much as they do. I wish there could be some kind of private investigation into the UConn program. Seriously.
I'm not a UCONN fan but the man is doing something right! He has figured out the key to get the most out of his players and then some.
I said it once and I'll say it again - I would hire an intern or someone to go in and watch and study his practices. What is he demanding from his players? They run like a well oiled machine. If they are taking steroids or whatever - that has nothing to do with their lock down defense and shoot and attack mentality. He turns all of his players into gamers. I think he teaches excellence in everything they do - each pass has to be accurate and exact, each defensive move has to be on point, each screen must be set, etc.
I also think it has a lot to do with the type of players he recruits. I don't think every player will buy into his motivational scheme. He breaks them down and then rebuilds them, kind of like basic camp. He figures out what motivates them and thrives on it to get them to perform at the next level. I say it's BRILLIANT!!
So after saying all of that - how in the world do you beat them? GET IN THEIR HEAD!!! They are such a well ran machine, phyically I don't believe any team can man up and compete physically. But if you get in their heads and dictate your game, maybe just maybe they will throw them off long off where you can sneak in and beat them. I don't know how you're going to get in their head but I'm sure some of you might know how. They are sooo mentally strong it will need to be a team effort to mentally get them off their game.
Sidebar: I would go straight at Charles, Green and Moore the 1st 15 possessions and get them in foul trouble the 1st 5 minutes of the game. Yes, I would draw up schemes and plays to directed right at them.
I know it sounds crazy but hey no one else has tried it or maybe they have and it didn't work. LOL!!
FSU actually matches up well with UCONN....of course I'm not saying I think they have a chance or will win, but they did play well vs. the Huskies when the two met earlier this season. UCONN eventually pulled away and won by 19, but FSU was only down by 6 at the half...and they showed the ability to fight back vs. UCONN, something few others have done. At one point duirng the first half the Huskies were up by double-digits but FSU pulled it back to within 2....anyway, it will probably be a blowout but I'll be pulling for the Seminoles!
i have the exact same feelings as you, overseasbball. i really don't like Baylor at all (Mulkey especially), but i guess i'm glad they made it to the FF, representing the Big 12. i don't think they have a chance against UConn, and i wouldn't mind seeing them blown out. Baylor plays great defense, but they have a really hard time putting the ball in the basket. to beat UConn, you have to play defense and put up points. my money is on OU or Stanford.
speaking of Stanford, did anybody watch the end of their game last night??? man what an ending! i felt horrible for Xavier, and especially #4....missing two wide open lay ups at the very end, to put your team ahead. and then to watch Stanford go end-to-end in 4 seconds and win the game. ouch! i was glad that Stanford won, but at the same time, i felt terrible for Xavier.
Overseas, my sentiments exactly! Glad to see the Bears in the FF, representing the B12. Hope to see them blown out by epic proportions in the semi-final game.
