NBCOlympics.com sucks

What the hell? NBC has four years to plan for presenting the Olympics to the world and this is the best they can come up with?

I'm trying to look through the men's soccer results on their Result & Schedules page. In the list of the games that are over, they don't list the actual score under the results. They just have a link that says "Official" and you have to go there for each game to see the score. What a pain in the ***.

I'm also trying to look at the upcoming TV schedule for the weekend. First, it took my a few minutes to figure out if the white sections or the gray sections meant there was actual coverage on their schedule. Then, when you hover over the time slots it doesn't even give you any detail about the event. "Men's Group B" doesn't tell me **** about whether or not I want to watch the basketball game. Damn, would it be that hard to actually display the countries that are competing?

What a lazy job of putting that site together. Are there any better sources out there for keeping up with results and looking at TV schedules?

Tell me about it. I've been trying to find some sort of guide that would tell me when an actual event is taking place and where I can see it live. I'd rather not watch the crap nightly highlight shows and be forced to watch crap I'm not interested in.

Wow. Just wow. I can't believe somebody got paid to do that. I was thinking "how bad can it really be?" when I went over to the site and sweet Jesus it is awful. It's like they didn't bother to do a single usability test.

This TV schedule from philly.com is INFINITELY more useful. Only thing the official NBC site has over it is online video listings that are impossible to find.

I thought technology was just passing me by and I had no clue as to what I was doing. I could not believe that it could be that bad, ESPN is horrible as well. Not that ESPN is going to be promoting the Olympics and NBC, I understand all that.....

If you want the soccer results for the day quickly:

ESPN's SOCCERNET section (not their Olympics) has all of the soccer scores in different countries of that day. The Olympic results are near the top.

It may not have the Standings in each group, but if you want to see:

-WHO WON
-BY HOW MUCH
-WHO SCORED
(and often a Report as well)

www. soccernet . com (without the spaces) will take you directly there. And you hit LIVE SCORES.

Or just go to ESPN's normal homepage and click on Soccer but when it opens up its options, hit LIVE SCORES.

The scores are out there, you just can't count on the estrogen filled Bob Costas and NBC to help you find them.

Unfortunately that listing is only marginally better. For example, take this description:

Saturday, Aug. 9

NBC and NBC HD, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. — Women's Volleyball - USA vs. Japan (LIVE); Swimming; Beach Volleyball - USA Match; Men's Cycling - Road Race; Women's Fencing - Individual Sabre Gold Medal Final; Rowing

If I want to watch the Men's Cycling event when exactly am I supposed to tune it? I understand that they may not be able to give an exact to the minute time but something better than an 8 hour window would be nice.

i think thats a distint possibility jerry and one that should be taken into account

also, if you have directv you get a really good guide to use for the olympics

that's the problem with NBC and the Olympics. They don't want to be a news or sports network when it comes to the Olympics because they want the ratings.

I guess its good for people who want to watch the events w/o knowing what happened. Of course, that might mean you need to avoid every other web site, especially if a big upset or world record is set.

I agree that it is not a friendly site. I have a friend whose son is in the javelin throw. Seems like it took me forever to figure that schedule. Me too on the colors of the tv schedule. Took several times before I realized what the colors meant.

Agreed. At any point in time there are 10* channels showing stuff. It's ridiculous that they don't have a clean full page schedule you can print out, with, the event, the time, and channel it will be on. It's like playing the lottery trying to figure out which 2 channels i should record over-night.

Here are two things that may be of interest:
GIANT Press Kit PDF -
www.nbcumv.com/special/S__Press_DEPTS_NBCMV_Press_Kits_2008_olympics_schedule9.pdf

Fox News has a decent TV schedule, but they forgot to post Universal HD (or maybe NBC didn't provide Universal HD's schedule to anyone?)

If you find anything better, please share it.
thanks!

Say what you will about ESPN's coverage, but at least they have a comprehensive schedule that actually lists times!!!
