NBA Western Conference Scenario....

ok so it won't happen this year... but i just thought up a scenario of:

the top 8 teams stay the way they are now. Utah getting the 4 seed due to leading their division.

NOW...what if

let's say a team like sacramento this year played a little better and ended up being the 9th seeded team WITH A BETTER RECORD than utah/denver/portland? what the hell would the NBA do?

leave a team with a better record than a division winner out of the playoffs??? it seems like they'd have to leave out a team like sacramento and that'd suck serious *** for that team. to have a better record than a team in the playoffs.... as a 4 seed no less.

thoughts?

in your example, Sac would be SOL. Division winners are guaranteed at least a 4th place seeding.

could happen. seems like they're tweaking it every year. they're trying to uphold the Division concept, but at some point you could have the 4 worst teams in one Division- then what would they do?

Division winner will always be guaranteed the a spot. If you don't want that, then why have divisions or even conferences, for that matter. Seed the top 16 teams based on record.
