NBA Lockout 2012 One and Done Players

Ok... anyone not living under a rock knows and has known for quite some time that there is a strong chance of an NBA lockout. Yet we have three players who declared anyway. What does this tell us?

1) The player(s) believed they had shown all the skills necessary to play in the NBA and further time in college would not improve their draft status, or
2) the player(s) believed that their draft status was positively affected by the lockout compared to where they were likely to be selected in a subsequent draft, or
3) both 1) and 2).

If I had to guess, I'd say that Hamilton qualifies under No. 1, Thompson under No. 2, and Joseph under No. 2 or No. 3.

I guess I was thinking they are taking a huge risk of being caught in the middle because the rhetoric coming from David Stern seems to be much more pessimistic than what we hear from the NFL. There are supposedly some NBA clubs who are losing money while all the NFL clubs are making money. Anyway I think the one and done's may be making a huge mistake. We'll see...

No doubt there is a risk.

Look at it this way: If it were you, wouldn't you have thought about it? I can't imagine any of them had never heard the word "lockout" before now.

I don't think they'll trash the season, but Stern is going to talk trash until they have a deal.

The lock out held back a bunch of freshmen and sophomore players and led to a relatively weak draft. Unless Joseph played lights out next year he may have risked dropping to the second round with the pool of talent in the draft next year.

Joseph made a great choice given where he ended up and the all important first round. Hamilton would have been great at Dallas and will be fine in Portland.
