Nashville?

I am going on a road trip in a couple of weeks. Just wondering if anybody has any advice on where to stay, bars, etc.

I stay at the downtown Courtyard or the one out by Vanderbilt. Hit Printer's Alley after dark. Several clubs and live music. I especially like Bourbon Street Bar & Grill in Printer's Alley, 'cause dey play da blues.

An interesting place to check out is the Bluebird Cafe. They feature established and up-and-coming singer/songwriters trying out new material. Apparently many of Nashville's best have been discovered there. The place is small and a hot ticket. You must call ahead a week in advance to get a table. Instructions are on their website.

Don't miss the NashTrash tour. It's hilarious. Literally non-stop laughs. If you have kids, leave 'em behind. Again, call ahead for reservations.

For some good home cookin', check out Arnold's downtown.

Tootsie's Orchid Lounge is perhaps the most well-known bar downtown. Apparently a frequent watering hole for Willie and his buds when he was in Nashville. There are several other bars along the street. They all feature live music--some of them with 2 or 3 bands in different parts of the bar.

The Wildhorse Saloon appeals to some people, so check it out as a possibility.

For some of the best Bluegrass music in the country, check out The Station Inn. Sunday nights are free and feature a jam session of whoever shows up and you'd be surprised how good they are. Mondays showcase a regular band of some of Nashville's finest studio musicians--unforgettable. Other nights have various bands.

There are several good B&Bs in Nashville. The Big Bungalow is nice and near downtown and occasionally has a free house concert of local singer/songwriters that's free and entertaining. Only a few blocks from Vince's stadium.

There's a lot to do in Nashville, especially if you enjoy country music.

The new downtown Sheraton is very nice and in the middle of everything. The downtown bars(Tootsies, Roberts, Legends, The Stage) are great, if you're wanting the authentic "Nashville" experience. If you're young and single, I would hit up the Demonbreun Street area. There is some serious talent there on the weekends. Also, the Tin Roof has a great house band.

I hope you're not coming up to escape the heat, as it has been a scorcher here lately.

I had a blowout between Huntsville and Nashville on Friday. I burned my hand just putting it on the pavement. My car's ambient temperature read 106. Trucks were flying by me on I65. I had to empty the car and have the kids sit on the grass. I was using the triangle type jack and had to lift the SUV twice, first to get the spare from under the car and second to lift the car to change the tire. Then spent a few hours at the Franklin Sam's Club getting 2 new tires. It sucked. I wouldn't follow my plan of "what to do in Nashville".

Thanks for all the info. The Sheraton is where we were leaning towards staying. I hope we have better luck than you Uninformed.

The mall across the street from the Grand Old Opry has a pretty cool aquarium restaraunt.

Also, go see the temple to VY at the stadium

Have to agree that the CMHOF is very impressive for that kind of attraction. You can have your picture taken next to Willie's HOF plaque
