nanny cams

anyone have any experience with these products. to make a long story short....new nanny supposed to clean and doesn't. says the kids never nap so doesn't have time. kids behavior changing, only want to watch TV and eat candy.

There are any number of nanny cams available. You may want to visit a local spy shop and find out what they have that fits your situation.

There is a poster here that runs a spy shop. I think his username is spyhorn or something like that. He has given great advice in the past so hopefully he will happen across this. But I would trust his advice as it seems to have helped people in the past. Plus, it helps people from the site with product and their business.

Fry's carries cameras, but nothing covert, & I dare anyone to find an employee there with any kind of surveillance knowledge.

In my experience, the two most popular nanny cams are:

Clock Radio

Air Purifier

Each of these products are fully-functional with a wireless camera built in. Each unit comes with a receiver that can be placed up to 700' away. (Example: clock radio in kid's room, receiver in parent's room.) The receiver than connects to a recording device, which can be one of two options: the cheap, easy way is a standard VCR that will record up to 9 hours; the other option is a Digital Video Recorder (DVR), which is quite a bit more advanced, but also quite a bit more expensive. I will provide more specs on this option if anyone needs them. In the OP's post, I think the VCR option would work fine, because it would probably only take a day or two to get the evidence they're looking for. Both of these products retail for $399 B&W & $499 Color, but I will knock $100 off to any HF member.

Do a Google on X-10 video. You will be amazed with what you get here for the price. They have wireless cams with motion detectors and a device that will start a recorder when the camera sees motion. No need to buy some overpriced camera disguised as a clock or lamp. These things are really small and easy to hide. fuzzyE

Fuzz, have you actually ever used an X10 product? I'm pretty sure I know a tad more about this industry, & I will personally stake my store's reputation to the fact that X10 is about as low-end as you will find camera-wise. If you want something cheap in every aspect of the word, you have found the right product...
