Myanmar: Next proxy war?

The country is going through violent confrontations between the minority Muslim population (Rohingya) and the government. It's interesting that in some cases such as this one and like what happened in former Yugoslavia, or the Russsian conflict against Chechnya, are portrayed in the west as genocide perpetrated against innocent Muslims. In other cases, Muslims or pertrayed as the terrorists and support is given to the state.

In the case of Myanmar, the country is of vital strategic importance to China as it is part of the New Silk Road project and provides a route essential to. China's energy security. That being the case, the west and the US in particular will play the card of Myanmar government oppression against innocent Muslims. The truth may be somewhere in the middle but we will be presented with a slanted anti-China anti-Myanmar version as the conflict continues. Expect clandestine support to go to Muslim extremists and pressure by the UN toward the Myanmar government. Here's some background.

Proxy war? You have the Buddists "eradicating" the Muslim Rohingya. This is more of a Rwanda situation. Do you stand by and let the majority commit atrocities against the minority? Myanmar isn't important enough for anyone to care more than for humanitarian reasons. Right now it seems the world is aligning themselves against the Myanmar government.

I'm pretty sure you didn't read the linked article. Myanmar is of strategic importance to China's economic security. The article explains how and why. As the US vies with China for influence in Aisa, every country becomes important; not necessarily because of resources or GDP, but perhaps because of transit. If the governance changes, what was formerly a trade route becomes a choke point. Or a friendly neighbor becomes a host for an insurgency. Since the US and Chinese long term strategic goals differ, the analogy to a Rhawanda situation could be factual...or it could be a distorted piece of propaganda to garner support for political agendas.

There is ethnic cleansing going on. The Myanmar army is in essence driving the Muslim population from Myanmar into neighboring Bangladesh. But this is not at all similar to Rwanda. If anything, it resembles the Israel/Palestinian reality where a small percentage of Palestinians provoke a response followed by the Israeli army "mowing the grass" by killing innocents, confiscating land, and basically employing ethnic cleansing.

The difference is that with Israel, we hear and accept only the Israeli/Western narrative whereas in Myanmar the story told is in essence one sided Muslim propaganda.
