My son..

has struggled in school despite him busting his butt. He's been as strong as a pre-teen could be during his parents' divorce, carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. His little brother is the athletic stud of the family, but today, my son Jacob earned 1st chair in his 7th grade band.

It couldn't have happened to a better kid at a better time. I'm always proud of my kids, but today my tower is lit orange for my son!

Congrats on your good news. Nice way to kick off the holiday season.

Give Jacob an "attaboy" from the extended family at HF.com

FWIW, When I was in 9th grade, another guy and I would battle it out to see who was last chair
trumpet every week, so I know how good your son is.

My middle school had three concert bands. In seventh grade, I was 3rd chair out of nine in the lowest of the three bands. Six years later, I was marching in DKR as a member of the Longhorn Band. So your son's got a head start on where I was and could go even farther. Give 'im a pat on the back for me.

Thank y'all for the kind words

Bluepies, just the thought of my son playing in the Showband sends chills down my spine. What a thrill that must have been for you.
