My resting pulse: Just want to brag

I'm in my mid 40's and have been doing some pretty intense cardio lately.

This morning, after being awake for a couple of hours and drinking one cup of coffee, my resting pulse was 48 beats per minute. I am quite pleased with my overall magnificence to say the least.

AHAHAHAHAHA!

Just kidding, sort of ....

Anyway, what about you guys? What are you doing to stay in shape during these dog days of June and what kind of results are you getting?

Nice work, that's pretty low. You should try sleeping with your monitor on and checking it the second you wake up before you even roll over. It'll probably be even lower.

I think when I was in my best shape I was in the mid-50s.

Several years ago I could wake up in the mid-40s (not anymore, various reasons).

You'll know you've made it when you try to give blood and they tell you your pulse is too low. Mine was 48 one morning when I tried to give. I had to sprint in place for a couple of minutes to get it high enough to give.

I'm 27. Resting pulse is about 45. But my blood pressure is borderline ~140/90 so that's not so great. I cut out salt on my margaritas, but that hasn't seemed to help.

Mine's around 55 (I'm 42, w/ a titanium hip, i might add)

I posted this on horn depot but I'm doing:

Weights
Boxing
Kettlebells
Walking

Since the beginning of the year, I've dropped 3 inches off my waist and have 3 more to go (from a 36 to a 30) by the end of the year. I might make it by the end of summer, though, b/c I'm really enjoying my workouts again.

On the evening of July 8th, 1981, I complained of chest pains and was taken to the dispensary. My mouthpiece and restraints were removed for an EKG. The nurse leaned over me....

The doctors managed to reset her jaw more or less. Saved one of her eyes. My pulse never got above 85, even when I ate her tongue.

Good question... mine is 60 while sitting at my desk at 3 in the afternoon. Need to try it in the morning.

This summer, I'm sticking to three strength workouts a week (primarily compound exercises), one bike ride and anything else I can throw in.

This past Friday, I tried Craig Ballantyne's new bodyweight circuit challenge (http://youtube.com/watch?v=MctPl78vxq4) - was about to pull of 4 circuits + 30 extra reps in 30 minutes - 530 reps. It was a great workout!?

Just took my pulse sitting at the desk, and it came in at a smooth 48 beats per minute. I'm 27 and I have a rather moderate workout routine. 5-6 days a week on the treadmill at the highest incline at 4 mph for 36 minutes and alternate weights between arms/back and chest.

Mine is 47-48 in the afternoon/evening when I check my BP. My workout:
Before plantar fasciitis a couple of months ago: run 7 miles 4-5 times a week, elliptical trainer 60 minutes 4-5 times a week, sometimes a ten mile run.
After plantar fasciitis: elliptical trainer 60 min. 5-6 times a week. Bicycle one hr pretty strenous 4-5 times a week. I also tried swimming in a lap pool a couple of times recently.

My age is still < 50.
Barely.

I have a lot of guilt about not running, but I have maintained my weight loss quite nicely without it so i focus on doing other stuff.

my first year at texas my resting heart rate was 34. i was on the swim team in high school so the year after it for some reason my pulse rate was crazy low. i was also working out a lot at school. i passed out once when i got up from bed to answer the phone. i just collapsed in the living room. haha.

pmg, a few threads ago we disagreed on running and injuries.
Now I see why you got plantar fasciitis.

7 miles 4 or 5 times a week is not a good way to run. 30 miles a week is not excessive, assuming you spent many months working up to it, but those runs need to be varied into a mix of a speed workout or two, a single long run, and everything else is a recovery run. 7 miles is not a recovery run. You can still get the same weekly mileage by running 3, 7, 3, 3, 12. Those three milers are just for recovery and nothing else. Running 7 miles, may seem easy but that mileage adds up day to day and there's no recovery. Plus doing eliptical on the same day further hampers recovery.

If you want to add more miles, add them one mile per week to your long run and leave every other day the same. I'm not telling you to go run now, because PF can take a long long time to recover from. But don't give up on running if you miss it. When it does heal, you can get back up to that same mileage, but it should take several months to build up to it and you absolutely need some short easy runs mixed in there with no other leg work that day.

i just had 3 glasses of red wine, a beer and a cigarettte. i did have sushi for dinner - sashimi really, with a green tea. i don't know what my pule is, but it feels about right.

Mine has dropped from the mid 80s to just below 60 bpm most mornings in the last four months. Just trying to do something every day aerobically. Used to be down in the mid 40's when I swam a lot in college now I am an old guy....

68 sitting at my computer -- 3/4 bottle of wine though -- not sure what that's supposed to do to a heart rate.

About 72, and has been through periods of being in fabulous shape, or in between.

Kind of bummed out-- broke my eliptical-- the weld at the bottom broke and now it wobbles. I used it yesterday after strength- 5 minute sprint and almost fell off of it-- I looket oer today and figured out what was wrong. I had been doing sprint work outs 3 days a week and a long hill work out once a week. On off days, I do strength. last year I did these speed squats and weighted lunge circuit that got the heart up nicely-- might have to go back to that and swim laps. Pulse 64 tonight-- just came in from a quick swim to cool off after 2 hrs of mowing and weedeating-- that's exercise as well. I will check in the morning.
