My nephew playing on ESPN+

My great-nephew is a freshman and the starting center for Lamar and is playing UTSA today on ESPN+. He is Jacob Bayer, #73, two-time All-State and 2019 Class 3A-Div. I state champion with the Grandview Zebras.

The Cardinals are struggling, but they’re a young team with a new coach. I’m expecting them to improve.

Tell the young man to drive the few miles down 287 to 365 and go in The Schooner. Best gumbo anywhere. I refuse the cup, refuse the bowl, and order a trough of seafood gumbo (shrimp, crawfish, crab), then bring a gallon home to my daughter and her family. You can freeze it and it loses no flavor.

I’ll post it during the week for any of you guys that want to watch it. It will no doubt be on ESPN+, so you’ll have to get the ESPN app if you don’t already have it. ESPN plus is a subscription service.

Lamar got their butts kicked, worse than Texas. Oddly enough, apparently the UTSA fans celebrated afterward as if it were a national championship victory. My sister said they were all running around and shouting and carrying on as if this were a really big game.

The OL coach called Jacob over after the game and told him not to hang his head. He thanked Jacob for playing hard the whole game and not giving up, apparently like some of the other players did. He assured Jacob that he’ll keep his starting job going forward.

I might add that Jacob hasn’t played center since junior high. He played OT and DT in high school.
