My Morning Jacket isn't all that good

i think they have some absolutely outstanding songs, but there is a big difference between that and what i would consider "filler music" on their cds.

why "try" though? i like 95% of the music all the labeled music snobs on the board like. i go to plenty of shows. mmj is just one band that i like a good deal, have seen, listen to on occasion, but don't talk about on near-deity level.

Have you seen them live? I found a whole new respect for them after I saw how hard they played and how into their live show they are.

I didn't like their performance at ACL. I thought their show was cheesy. The whole beach scene was just too much.

Because of that, I chose not to see them again at Bonnaroo.

At the recommendation of this board I bought some of their CD's along with Wilco. I have to say that it just wasn't for me either. I just couldn't get into it for whatever reason.

Z is a solid album, but they are not in the upper part of my favorites list. Then again, I am a metalhead at heart and have just ventured out into indie snobbery over the last few years. I need a few more years of hipster practice.

I can understand not liking the newer experimental stuff, but have you listened to songs like One Big Holiday, Mahgeetah, Dancefloors, and Run Through? I don't care who you are, that is just some great rock n roll.

I'm confused as to why you needed to express your confusion.

I agree that you need to see them in concert before you dismiss them. I know they do a lot of festivial shows but the best MMJ shows that I have seen have been indoors. I think the light show adds to the experience of the show. You did not get that at ACL this past year due to the set time.

The SXSW private party as The Parrish was awesome, as was Jim James in St. Davids church.

MMJ is good and varied. Jim James is one of the best talents out there IMHO.
