My microwave

I bought my microwave in early 1985. It still works great. And we use it A LOT.

I wonder if anyone else has a microwave they've used for 23 years.

I really thought that said microwave was stolen.

My parents still have one that was bought in the mid '80s.

My dad has a really old microwave, I think it is as old or older than me, so it at least in it's late twenties. It still works and works well.

Ours from 1981 just died last year. We bought it with our tax refund check of about $700. As someone else said - it was HUGE. The new one takes up half the space, or so it seems, and cost 1/7 of the old one.

You're missing the best function of some new microwaves. Is there anything better than the "soften" butter function? Seriously, I moved to a new house 2 years ago and had to replace the microwave for this function alone. I hate taking a new stick of butter out of the fridge and using it to butter toast. I consider the "soften" butter on of life's little pleasures.

What can I say? There are so many "gimmicky" functions on new appliances but this function is something that is used often in a family of 5 that consumes a fair amount of toast.

I can soften butter in my microwave. There's no button that says, "Soften butter," but I can do it nonetheless.

I can also bake a chicken pie.

23 years...seriously, I'll see your 23 years and raise you with my fully functional 1977 model Kenmore. No need for digital displays, touch pads or butter softeners...those are for sissies...give me dials and enough wattage to pop a rodent!!!

Of course it takes two people to move it and my wife prefers the fancy one we got as a wedding gift so mine is relegated to my "Guy's Room" next to the neon signs and bar paraphenalia...but it still makes a mean batch of popcorn and even the occasional Hot Pocket (for those evenings I feel like playing gastro-intestinal roulette).

I have one that is 14 years old... i have used it to microwave all sorts of random stuff... which has probably prematurely aged it to 25.

Mine is a built in that came with the house, which was built in 1978. it is fricking huge, and has dials for timers. The lights still work and it cooks popcorn like nobodys business. I have been hoping it would die so I could get a new one with more features, but it shows no sign of wearing out....

My mom still uses the one she received as a mother's day gift when I was in 1st grade. I'm 39 now, so I guess that baby must be about 32-33 years old now. It sure doesn't look new and high tech, but it doesn't look old-fashioned in any way either, at least not to me.

As I recall, it cost $600. My dad was all excited about it. I wasn't sure why we needed it since we already had a regular oven, a stove and toaster.
