limited cuz I like to focus on certain positions.
Nice crowd on hand for the first open practice, considering that is the Friday of Texas-OU weekend.
All ten players were present and participated in workouts. A photo gallery will be out, hopefully later today. Lindsay Sherbert was spotted on the team bench. Coaches seemed to be taking turns sitting and talking with her.
All the players looked to be in excellent shape. Looks like the team is going to run. Lots of defensive drills to start—two on two, adding a player each rotation. Almost everyone got their hands on passes, deflecting them away. Both AG and Cokie looked strong in getting up and grabbing rebounds throughout. Cokie is pretty smooth around the basket, although I didn’t see her using her left much, even when shooting from the left up close. She will learn to do that, otherwise her shot from that side will be too easy to block. I really like Lauren’s stroke from outside. It’s pretty. She’s a pretty good passer also. All the returners just looked quicker. Pretty much all of our wings and guards nailed threes. But they did that last year so no surprise there.
Got a glimpse of Cokie and AG on the floor together. That is going to give teams headaches, with those two back there. If they can stay out of foul trouble, that’s going to be a very active shot blocking combo. We’ll see how much they end up playing together instead of rotating in for each other.
The team is fast. Maybe quicker than expected, too. Looks like they will be up in people’s faces on the defensive end, which is good for playing time.
I watched mostly the posts and Lauren. Lauren cuz she’s a freshman and I don’t know what to expect from her (she’s going to be good) and the posts because that’s always been my interest. Kristin looked very good, quicker and more aggressive on both ends. Nice to see Earnie moving so well. She drained a very long 3 so she hasn’t lost her touch from BTA.
As usual, Earnie and Kat rotated among drills for post players and backcourt players. Like last year, they will be our swing players, playing either forward spot as needed (jmo).
Looks like Texas may be looking at 2-3 more players to go with the three who have already verbaled this year, including another post. Tiffany Moore, Lindsay Sherbert, and Richa Jackson have visited and, presumably, all are still considering Texas.
Don’t forget, next Saturday at 1 pm, there’s another open practice at the FEC.
