My last meal at Dot's

I got there at 11:15 today, the line was out the door, down to the end of the mall, and into the parking lot. waited exactly 60 minutes before I got inside the front door. everyone was chatting and (sadly) enjoying the wait for our last meals.

my picks:

catfish w/ tartar sauce (she was already out of fried chicken; the beef tips & rice and the meatloaf were tempting but you gotta have one or the other)

collard greens

blackeye peas

both a homemade roll and a cornbread muffin

ended with her unbelieveable peach cobbler (I got the next-to-last helping; she was already out of that great sweet potato pie)

a fine repast.

tomorrow lunch is her last day. man, that place is gonna be missed.

**Mod: I know this isn't the forum for food stuff, but it's Dot's, a soon-to-be late great Austin institution.

They were a little expensive (worth it IMO), but never seemed to hurt for business. I'd imagine high prices with a willing buyer would spell success.

I wonder why it failed.

her business was fine. she was just tired and ready to retire (I think Dot is 70). folks were hoping that one of her kids or gr-kids would take over, but apparently not. too bad.

Ate there Wed. and Thurs. but was shutout on the chicken and dressing which is one of the greatest comfort foods I've ever had. I use to eat there a lot more in my youth, but as I got older I could actually feel myself gaining weight as i ate my meal.
