My job is late with my paycheck

So I work for a major corporation here in town and within the last year it has hired an outside company to handle all payroll, benefits, 401K, etc.
Well, I closed my bank account last month because I am planning on changing banks, so rather than do direct deposit, I am having the check mailed to me.
Well, since then, I have had no problems getting the checks on time, until last Friday. I called this outside company to find out where my check was and they said it was mailed out last Tuesday. As of today, I still have not received it. I am not the only one. Everyone who does not use direct depoist is without pay. Obviously this being the beginning of the month, people are without rent money, bills, etc.
We've talked to the people here and all they do is direct us to the outside company who tells us the checks were already mailed out. They say they can put a stop payment and resend an overnight check, however they can't get it here until Thursday.
As of Thursday, people will accrue at least $100 in late fees for rent, not to mention any other bills. I will be dropped from my classes as of Wednesday at midnight.
This really sucks. Can my company be held responsible for not paying us?? Is it legally responsible for late fees, etc??

The most frustrating part is my company's complete refusal to help out individuals. Especially after I put in overtime hours last pay period, working on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. I know they are able to cut us a check if they want to, but we were told, "We don't want to set that precedent.."
BS, I am pissed and broke and hungry. I don't make enough money to just have extra cash lying around.
Any suggestions?

My company had a payroll screwup like that once and they covered all the fees due to insufficient funds. All you had to do was get written proof of the fees and they'd reimburse you.

Seems like a good thing to push for with your company.

You company swings the stick with the accounting firm, it is they not you who can get things done.

I feel you pain. Two years ago my wife's company went on a "vendro Hold Period" where they simply held all receivables for a month. She had gone contract and her checks (which are paychecks to us) were not cut as all invoices were placed on hold.

We were of course buring through cash aroudn Christmas and didn't figure out what was going on until 5 or 6 days before Christmas. thankfully a superior in the company made the call and got her a check cut which we paid for to have overnighted.

I call ******** on having the check in the mail last Tuesday. You are going to find a machine meter on it that reads one date but it was dropped on a later date.

The company is not going to cover anything in this case. Is it their fault that the USPS didn't deliver the check to you timely? Is it there fault that you are not on direct deposit? Not what you want to here, but it's what you are going to here.

File a complaint with the Texas Workforce Commission. If enough people in your company file then they will investigate. Your company will probably go ahead and pay up rather than deal with the investigation.
