My grandfather's WWII army divison - need help

My grandfather passed away recently and I am working on an engraving plate. I want to get it right.

I know he was in the 11th Armored Division during WWII. I thought he was in the HQ company within that division.

His discharge paper mentions Company B 305th Engineers Battalion. Was this outside the 11th Armored? I know he moved to another division/company/battalion or something at one point.

What is within what? If that makes sense. I want to make sure I have with whom he served 100% right.

Does this help?
11th Armored divisions

Thanks in advance

In order from the top down for subordination of units (number of units under the listed item above):

XXXXXX A Region or Theater or Front has under it 2+ Army Groups

XXXXX An Army Group has under it 2+ Armies

XXXX An Army has under it 2+ Corps

XXX A Corps has 2+ Divisions

XX A Division has 2 - 4 Brigades or Regiments

X A Brigade has 2+ Regiments or 3 – 6 Battalions

III A Regiment has 2+ Battalions or U.S. Cavalry Squadrons

II A Battalion has 2 – 6 Companies, Batteries, or U.S. Cavalry Troops

I A Company has 2 – 8 Platoons

& Then we get down to 2+ Squads, Sections, or Vehicles

2+ Fireteams

[No subordination for Fireteam or Fire & Maneuver Team]

Good luck Theo. My Dad was in the 44th Infantry in WWII, and we found a lot of info and contacts online and by searching Amazon for books.
