my dog smells like a skunk

I'm thinking of taking him to Pets Mart because i heard the have some kind of "de-skunking" bath or like $30. Believe me, it would be worth it. I've tried everything, including tomato juice and a "recipe" from my vet. Nothing works and he still smells like ****. I also might put him through the car wash at Exxon but he might jump out the back of my truck. Any other suggestions???

Get a new dog.

My lab took a skunk blast in the face at close range. I soaked him in tomato juice for a long time, basting frequently. It neutralized the smell, for the most part.

Better hope your dog learned its lesson. My parents' German Shepherd never learned and was sprayed at least once a year. We just locked her out of the house until the smell subsided.

rottweilers are extremely smart dogs but neither of the two i've owned EVER figured out that skunks would **** their world. we saw our rott one time corner one in the backyard, get blasted in the face, and instead of running, it just pissed it off... the rott, God bless her, saw fit to basically crush the skunk (if you've ever been bitten by a rott, even just play wrestling with them, you know this is possible) and fling it's corpse into the air.

anyhow, the moral of the story is that our dogs always smell like skunks in the late winter and early spring. tomato juice, baths, whatever, it's useless-- it'll just happen again.

One of my old labs got herself sprayed by a skunk at least twice a year. I had decent luck with some skunk odor shampoo I got at the feed/pet store. I don't recall the brand and have used different brands over the years. They don't get all the smell out, in my experience, but they help considerably.
