My dog is gun shy...

which isn't necessarily a big deal because I don't hunt anyway. But he's a lab mix, and I've known since he was probably a year old that if he hears a gun, he's going to do a 180 and trot off in the other direction.

Which leads me to the funny part. My IM gives a message notification whenever an e-mail comes in, kind of a loud plunking sound. So any time he's standing near my desk and that goes off, he immediately tries to get under my desk.

OK, it cracks ME up, anyway...

Guns don't bother my dog. A howitzer could go off and she wouldn't flinch. But sneezes totally freak her out. If anyone sneezes, she will jump 5 feet in the other direction. No idea why.

My lab would snore through a thunderstorm, and if he is afield he is alert and awaiting the sound of the shot. There are some tricks to it, if he is not like mine. How old is your dog? If he is too old, it might take some time or it might not happen.

He just turned 13 years young - he can still do a lot of stuff, but hunting is probably not one of them. But he can still completely tear the stuffings out of a dog bed in about 2 minutes, so that's something I guess...

At this point, it's just funny to watch.

My 1 year old lab. I could probably just stop there because they tear up all kinds of stuff. But a couple days ago she ate the seat off of my inlaws ATV we had in our garage. Seat cover, stuffing, everything. Well, about a third of it.

That reminds me of a joke that my grandfather used to always tell. "I had a worthless dog that used to run away when I whistled for him. So I fed him a bowl of beans and jammed a whistle up his *** and never saw him again."

My lab doesn't chew anything besides bones and her toys.

They are mouth oriented dogs, but they can be trained not to chew if you start them young.

I had a lab mix-- scared of her shadow--- chewed throough a door to get in the house on July 4 while we were gone====

we had a full lab-- largest female in the litter--definate alpha female-- runs after firecrackers to catch them in her mouth---- crazy girl not scared of anything--except feathers--now you can imagine our issue wth this pedigreed "retriever"
