I bought a Dell 8300 one year ago today (with a one year warranty).
Last Wednesday, I popped a CD in the DVD-ROM drive and .....nothing.
I ran through all the usual diagnostics to no avail. I have a burner also, so no biggie. If I ever decided I needed the other drive I'd throw one in for thirty bucks.
Then I decided what the hell, let's try the warranty. I figured they would probably want me to send them the machine(after a couple of dozen canned troubleshooting emails), so I would blow it off at that point.
I fired off an email explaining what I had tried. When I came home Thursday, I had received an email saying a tech would contact me to replace the drive. In disbelief, I told my wife and she told me they had already called. I called them back (with zero hold time) and they told me they would come Monday.Saturday I got a call from the tech who said he was in the area and could do it then. He came to my house and was in and out in 10 minutes. I am now back to two drives working perfectly.
I have read so many bad things about Dell on here that I figured I should tell this story. It couldn't have ended any better for me.
