My dad's friend

If you've got some free time, please read this article Bill Little wrote about one of my dad's good friends at UT that passed away this morning. This man was everything that Bill Little says he was in the article. Many of my first experiences as a little girl with UT football were made possible by this man. He did so much for the athletic department, specifically football, that the vast majority of fans would never have the opportunity to recognize, so if you've got a few minutes take a look at this article.

I haven't made a habit of praising Bill Little's writing, but this article deserves it. It's terrific to see wonderful people recognized, even if under the sad circumstances in this article.

My introduction to Mike Korth was in August of '96, when I was a freshman student trainer. The man was everywhere, doing everything, from helping the managers lug equipment to and from the IM fields for every practice, to picking up every scrap of paper that blew into DKR. I'll never forget the walkthrough before the home opener that year, when I noticed him in the stands and strolled over to say hi. It wasnt until I got closer that I saw what he was doing. He had a socket wrench, and was going from bench to bench in the east bleachers making sure all the bolts were tight.

Mike Korth, you will be missed. May God bless your weary soul, and give you peace.

Mike Korth was the definition of "glue people". They're the ones that hold everything together. UT needs a lot more like him and he'll be missed...RIP.

What a great person Mike Korth was and what an asset he was to The University. Thanks for sharing that.

RIP Mike

Like biggie said, I had the pleasure of working with Korth as an equipment manager for 10 years. There was never a task too big or small for him. From tightening the bolts at DKR to cutting and painting extra long jump/triple jump boards for the track team there was nothing he wouldn't do. Bill Little was spot on with his piece on Korth. I spent many an hour in the equipment truck on road trips with him. One of the best men you will ever know. I am glad he is finally free of his brain cancer and he will be missed. RIP Korth.
