My computer can't play wmv files

Everytime I try to play a .wmv video, I get an error message saying "Unable to download appropriate decompressor". I click Close and the clip continues to play with audio only, no picture.

How can I fix this?

Sounds like you need to download a newer version of Windows Media Player.

2 - My computer is 1-year old. Why should I be out of date that badly?

I gather that you downloaded these .wmv files and that the picture is substantially more important than the aural portion. If that is the case, your best solution is to download more and hope that those work.

I had a problem with Windows Media Player. I thought I just needed to update it. About a week later I discovered I had a virus that had replaced one of its files.

people: you should look for quarterly updates on all your software . treat you PC like a car, you do change your oil every 3k miles or 3 months right?

please don't blame technology vendors, technology has evolved this way becasue thats the way the market (read: users/people) wanted it it be.
