Went to the camp all three days. Fun group to watch. Got to meet three of the four frosh, missing out on meeting Ronisha Major. But she was pointed out so I can recognize her if I see her on the court. Also got to see a few alumni that were working the camp, including Stacy Stephens who is currently working at Texas College (hope I heard that right-I'm breaking in new hearing aids). Saw and talked to Earnie Williams and Tamra Cobbins. Mentioned to them how good it was to see former players coming back and working the summer camp.
There are some really impressive younger kids coming up in the ranks. They are going to attract a lot of attention as they move up the high school classes. That 2014 class is going to be really strong. Horns did get a verbal from a combo guard that’s a strong defensive player: Empress Davenport of Duncanville. Got a chance to watch Jada Terry, our 2013 verbal from Cedar Hill. Very impressive physically. Strong rebounder. She was working a lot on her perimeter game on offense. She played strong defense inside.
The players look in the best shape I have seen them. Edwina is really paying dividends in her new job as S&C coach. All the frosh also look in really good shape. They are also working hard in school so that they can qualify to go to Europe in August. Nice way to start off your college career.
Ronisha and Nneka look taller, maybe an inch or so, than their usual listed 6-1 at the high school level. Nneka looked as tall as Anne Marie although that could have been just where I was sitting—a matter of perspective.
This group is really friendly and polite. Could have something to do with the fact that the group I was with are old enough to be their grandparents.
