My Blackberry sounds like crap - Update

Work just signed me up for blackberry service through Cingular using a 7280.

I can't have a decent conversation on the phone and it is a real problem after switching from Sprint were I almost always had a clear call. This includes sitting on MoPac or Research Blvd in N. Austin.

Is this Cingular service or is it the 7280?

A coworker has the 7100g, is it better for voice? A guy I sat next to on a plane said he found his better (looked like a 7100) but I think he had T-mobile.

I absolutely HATE the CingularAT&T Blackberry service. They have been my bane.
I am the Blackberry ***** at work, and I have had more trouble with them than the 7520's through Nextel.

Myke,

It has only been thre days since I switched and I want my old phone back. This thing sucks.

Are your problems primarily voice or both voice and data? I don't seem to have a problem with data.

Cingular is supposed to be working on it. After I get the text message they are done I'll let you know if there was improvement.

Are those 7280's running the new V4.0 handheld software? If so, all my experiences tell me they need to do a hell of a lot more testing before going to market. When tied in with the current BES, it has great features but it is not even in the same league as 3.6/3.7 regarding stability.

I don't know how to check the SW on the device. The PC version is 4.0, but I know that is not what you're asking.

TexasEd-

Go to Options --> About. That will tell you. There really is not fix for the stability until an update comes out, but 3.6 and 3.7 versions didn't act up so much.

I'm running 3.7.1.41 on a T-Mobile 7230 (same model as yours) and I don't have any problems. Of course, it does take some getting used to to have a BB as a phone, but well worth it IMO. One thing that makes it easier to hear is instead of laying the phone flat on your cheek to talk, hold the top part against your upper ear and kind of angle it away from your face a little. I think the speakers in BBs get covered up easily.

I have the 7280 from Cingular and I could not be more happy. Go to Blackberry's website and have the 4.0 software downloaded to your handset. That will clearup any problems you have.

I didn't have any problems with 3.7 or 3.8 either, I just downloaded 4.0 because it was the newest software and had some additions that I wanted. I must have gotten a good one because I really like mine and people tell me that I come in crystal clear. I have only had problems with motorola phones and I will never buy another motorola product again, only Nokia.

I just got a 7290 through work. I don't use the phone portion of it, but was wondering if anyone knows how to keep the keep the sent items from appearing in the default mail folder. I know alt-i will select only incoming mail, but that is only temporary. I'm looking for a permanent fix.

Apparently it isn't just Balckberry. Cingular is just a lot worse than Sprint.

I never realized I was so spoiled with Sprint. Doesn't everyone's cell phone sound like a land line 95% of the time?

I have a regular Cingular phone while they check out the Blackberry unit and it soulds just as bad.

I think I may have to decline my company's generous offer to put me on the company plan and see if I can just get reimbursed for my Sprint bill.
