My beloved Astros

I am really hoping the new management knows what they are doing. The fans will tolerate this for a season, maybe two, but there will need to be some positive results in the next few years. I really hope the reloading of the farm stem continues and there are some stars that emerge. I also hope they resist the urge to go out and trade for a Carlos Lee, Kaz Matsui type player. Looking at the Angels and the Rangers, next year may get very ugly.

I appreciate your fandom and hanging with them during the worst of times. That truly defines what a good fan is. I agree with you...it could get very ugly next year, but with a little luck on acquiring right players and building strong farm system you will be back. In the meantime, an early Welcome to the AL West. (evil laugh).

I agree w/ Horn69 on hanging in there. The good thing is, an mlb franchise can turn around quick these days.

Houston is getting a really bad rap about their fans lately, but how can anyone fault a fan for paying the really high ticket, parking, food prices to see a team in rebuilding mode?

I've been a Astros fan since the days of Nolan Ryan and Mike Scott anchoring the staff and Billy Doran being over shadowed by Ryne Sandberg.

It's not easy being a fan and it seems like yesterday I was excited to see them make it to the World Series.

As much as I don't like them being a punchline for baseball, I think the management is doing the right thing. Drayton and Ed Wade gutted our farm system and we're seeing the fruits of this. When Gerry Hunsicker was GM between 1995-2004, our minor league system was an envy of baseball. When the RR Express was our affiliate, they won their league. Hunsicker knew we weren't the Yankees and could spend money on any free agent we wanted. So he maintained a good farm system and we won with home grown talent. And when we needed another player to put us over the top in a pennant race, he had bona fide minor league prospects to offer for good player. Exhibit A, the Randy Johnson trade in 1998.

Anyways, that is what worked. But Drayton and Hunsicker butted heads over this and with Drayton being the owner, he would win. But after Hunsicker left, both Popura and Wade were yes men and destroyed the minor league system.

So I think what management is doing is the best thing to do.

I knew Drayton was going to bad for baseball in Houston.

Hang in there -- as a long-suffering Rangers fan who watched countless ownership teams do the very same thing, I can tell you: it's going to get better. Draft picks, draft picks, draft picks. Scout the Caribbean.

It WILL get better. They're your team -- don't give up on them!

I have beenan Astro fan since they were the Colt 45s. I am really bummed about the American League in the offing. Not sure I will follow them as much as I have in the past. But I have been watching the team this year and I sure hope one or more of these "prospects" work out.
