my apartment = 85 degrees

i am near the sweat point sitting here in my apartment with ceiling fan and decent size box fan on full blast and AC full throttle. The maker of my apartment deserves a HUGE kick in the nuts for making the west facing side of my apartment almost all 'loover' windows so they dont seal.

We have put ghetto *** foil on the windows but its still hotter than **** and theres no escaping it in any part of the apartment. We live on the second floor so the sun is beating on the roof as well. Also, as previously mentioned, the windows are all 'loover' and don't completely seal. Our AC literally runs nonstop from 11 til 7.

Are there any other suggestions? Could i ***** to management that they either fix the damn problems and give us some type of window covers or cut us some slack on our electricity bill? It really is unbearable and its not even 'real' summer yet.

Pick a better apartment next time.

And by that I mean look at the way your unit will be oriented relative to the summer sun, etc. I don't think you have a leg to stand on with your complaints, but it can't hurt to try.

I would be to the point of violence if I were you. I would absolutely complain about it and ask for a new apartment and for them to pay to move all your stuff if the real problem isn't a malfunctioning a/c. That's ridiculous.

Sounds like your A/C unit may be frozen. Is it blowing cold? Maybe it needs charging. You might want to shut it off for a day and then try running it again.

My room is usually the worst sweatbox so i figured it was just 'normal' afternoon heating, but after gettin up and f'n around with the a/c i realized the damn thing wasn't blowin cold air. We shut it off for the rest of teh day and headed to a friends to crash after sittin thru that POS game last night. Now i'm back this morning and it doesn't seem to be blowing cold air.

We've left a message on the maintenance recorder like it says we are suppose to but of course, to no help. My dad mentioned something about flippin some switch off then back on inside the a/c but the majority say that it just needs charging/freon <im assumin those are the same thing>.

a the begining of every summer i have to get my complex to recharge my ac unit and it works great. thats one thing about lving in an apartment is that they have to fix **** that breaks

Same thing happened to my house a couple of weeks ago. It may be something as simple as replacing the board = takes 30 min for the AC repairman to do.

Of course, I don't mind if my house is 85 degrees, but my two big-*** dogs were not happy campers.

update:
it has been 24 hours since i left the message on answer machine and i still have not received any reply. I tried to take matters into my own hands and flip the breaker that is connected to the AC on the outside wall. It didn't work. This of course comes the weekend that all my close friends are out of town. Is the UGL open 24 hrs in summer?

My stupid *** roommates did this last year and they actually defended themselves for it. It was the most repugnant thing I've ever heard. Worst part was none of them have been in Texas for even half as long as I have. They insisted on keeping it from 75-80 in ******* Wichita Falls. God I hate stupid people.

My wife likes to keep the thermostat set on about 73 / 74 and if she gets the urge, she'll kick it down to 71 / 72. It's nice and cool, now if I can just pay the bill.

When your AC isn't working and it's an ozone day, your complex shoulnd't take more than 24 hours to fix it. I have a friend who's a manager at Riata so I'll bug her about the particular rules when it comes to fixing stuff like that.

I had an A/C problem when I was in school and received no response. I noticed them walking prospective tenants past the pool and my apartment when they showed them the property. So I put a big posterboard sign in a nearby bedroom window that said, "No A/C for 5 Days!"

The next day they took an A/C unit from a vacant apartment and used it to replace mine.

zzzz,
thats good stuff

So I finally got ahold of them late afternoon yesterday. They said they couldn't get ahold of the A/C nor maintenance people so tehy would get somebody here today. True to their word, they had A/C guy with freon tank here at 1030.

Even with the a/c cranked all day my thermostat still read right near 80 degrees during the hottest hours of the day. But after stayin the night here last ngiht with no a/c i realize how bad it could be.

Did they do the "hold the thermometer to your vent" test? If not, strap a cooking thermometer or something to you vent and see if you can get a read on how cold the air is actually blowing. If memory serves me right, it should be blowing around 65 degrees. There may be other problems.... and lord knows you don't want to see your electric bill if your AC keeps having to blow all day.....
