....for what I thought was a pretty good year at the movies:

Best Actress in a Leading Role:

My prediction - Julie Christie.

My choice - the same.

Best Actor in a Leading Role:

My prediction - Daniel Day-Lewis.

My choice - George Clooney or Tommy Lee
Jones.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role:

My prediction - Tilda Swinton.

My choice - the same, but Ruby Dee was good.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role:

My prediction - Javier Bardem.

My Choice - the same.

Best Director:

My Prediction - Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.

My Choice - the same or Sydney Pollack.

Best Picture:

My prediction - "No Country for Old Men."

My Choice - the same or "Michael Clayton."

I would also predict and choose "Falling Slowly" from "Once" as Best Song.

I also thought Sarah Polley's direction of "Away From Her" was Oscar nomination worthy. She is nominated for the Writing (Adapted Screenplay).

I haven't seen "Juno," "Atonement," "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly," " Sweeney Todd
....," The Assassination of Jesse James.....," " Into The Wild," "The Savages," "I'm Not There" or "Gone Baby Gone."

Are you really saying that Clooney should take best actor over Day-Lewis? I have to respectfully disagree with you on that one. Clooney was good as Michael Clayton..err..himself. Daniel Day-Lewis is an amazing actor.

I think and predict Daniel Day-Lewis wll win Best Actor.

That's because I realize the excellence of his performance and believe it will be rewarded by the Academy.

However, his fine performance was not the one I enjoyed ihe most of all those I saw that are nominated this year.

All his great acting in "There Will Be Blood" was obvious to and appreciated by me.

No kidding.

But there were several times during that long movie that I got a feeling his character from "Gangs of New York" was being somewhat reprised in a reimagining of "Citizen Kane" with oil, rather than printer's ink, struggling to provide badly needed liquidity this time around.

I prefer watching him in movies with a "better" story, such as "The Last of the Mohicans."

Thanks for your response and allowing me to clarify my thinking.

Michael Clayton definitely deserves its nomination for Best Movie. I thought it was great. George Clooney is a big part of that. Him and Sydney Pollack.

I am no film expert, but I thought Ben Affleck should have gotten a directing nomination for "Gone Baby Gone", although I think the Coens will get the statue.
